There are now clear signs that the rats are starting to run from the sinking Labour Government ship whilst recognising the hopelessness of their cause.
Yesterday John Prescott was quoted talking about Labour's "defeatism" and lack of drive at the top of the Party, today we have Alistair Darling coming out and saying that
Labour must come out fighting and doing more to regain lost voters after Charles Clarke openly warned of a "hammering at the polls", calling for Brown to step down. Lord Mandelson is being quoted this morning as stating he would work for the Tories (heaven forbid!!)
Along with many "other Labour MPs" reportedly talking of a massive defeat at the General Election, it appears to me the MP's of Labour are planning their politcal alignments for after the inevitable, and starting to jump from the sinking ship!

Lizzie...........
I believe that David Cameron and his excellent team will become the next government. ::) ::)
Not since 1979.......with the wonderful Mrs T.........have we had such an accomplished team ::) ::)
From 1979-1997.......Mrs Thatcher ..........followed by the superb John Major .....turned Britain from the "sick man of Europe"..........into a Utopian society........for everybody......both rich and poor ::) ::)
If memory serves .........in the eighties .....Mrs Thatcher......almost single -handedly......eradicated...........poverty........unemployment.........sickness......and THE worst disease of all time........SOCIALISM.....(I can barely bring myself to say such a word) ::)
It is a disgrace that the ungrateful British people....elected a Labour government in 1997......Shame on them ::)
In summary Lizzie..........like a cathartic experience...........I have seen the light ::) ::) ::).....and so shall be voting CONSERVATIVE.......at the next general election. ::) :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

I this the USA has the better idea that a premier can only be in for max of 2 seasons - most governements run out of steam after a few years, then we go through a period of diabolical stupidity, which ensures the opposition gets in next time. Happened to the Tories, allowing Smiling Boy and his cronies in, and we're seeing it again with
Tories MkII New Labour now, allowing Mr Personality to win next year.

I wonder if Labour managed to pull the country out of recession, would make any difference?

Well -- I am voting OOF !

I wonder if Labour managed to pull the country out of recession, would make any difference?
None at all in my view ODM, their tenure in government has resulted in a decline in the fortune and standing of this nation across the board.
Another term would be an unmitigated disaster for this country.

It is interesting though, as people are generally happy when they have job security and are spending. But then it remains to be seen.

Well, don't want to put a damper on everything, but with Iran soon to be mass marketing nuke weponary, and other others to, and with the same countries and other countries hating the USA + UK, don't think we need to worry what'll happen for the next x4 years when the new government gets in ?. Plus with mother-nature reclaiming her earth, I reckon that the planet will last another couple of years at a push.
Question really should be................................... !

Funny how you can never find anyone who voted the last government in!
I seem to remember exactly the same thing when Maggie was in so long.
Smegmatt1 - spot on. Won't be long before we are all in a proper war (not counting Iraq, Afghanistan, the war on terror etc). Best thing to take peoples' minds off recession and bad times. Lets hope we make a better fist of it this time and actually have an exit strategy.

We could of course ask what is fair or socially aware about one part of the UK not having to pay prescription charges or university fees for their kids while another does.A different conversation possibly, but I firmly believe that the UK should have one (westminster) government,or Scotland/Wales/N.I should be given total independence.Everyone is having their cake and eating it at the moment and it has until recently been funded in no small part by the taxes paid by the greedy banking industry in London that we all love to stick the boot into these days. ;)

Sorry Vamps, cant agree with that. There are hundreds of thousands of people who work in banking in london (or there were) and having met quite a few I would say they are as diverse a group of people as any other similar sized group of people would be.
They dont all wear red braces /worship gordon gecko/vote tory any more than everyone oop North keeps whippets and pigeons and drink only best bitter while wearing a flat cap.
I know off one fairly senior banker who spends at least a couple of evenings every week, working as an addiction counsellor and takes his holidays at a Buddhist retreat. ;)

Getting back to the original point about Labour sinking, well a week is a long time in politics, but they are as low in the polls as when Michael Foot was leader and its hard to see how they can come back from that. The only chance they have got imo is to replace Gormless- quickly.
If they are too dim to realise that then they deserve the kicking the electorate are soon going to give them.It looks like the only idea he has to win the hearts and minds of the public is to announce in every newspaper and TV station that he is going to give the bankers a good kicking.
I seriously doubt that he is stupid enough to go through with it,he is probably playing to the gallery, but if he is serious dont even hope for another economic boom any decade soon, because there isnt another industry left in the UK which could fuel it.There will be an exodus to New York/Tokyo/Moscow and other locations. And the treasury would lose countless billions on a permanent basis. The ultimate example of cutting off your nose to spite your face imo.
Its rather like Angela Merkel banning Bmw and Mercedes from building anything bigger than a 3 series or a c- class as its wrong for people to be paid enough money to buy cars which are more expensive. ::)

...you've said it brother - a very long time :y
