Title: did you know
Post by: Richie London on 29 September 2009, 11:01:19
According to research by the TaxPayers’ Alliance (TPA), there are currently 16,980 EU acts in force and between 1998 and 2007 there was a net gain of 9,415 EU laws. In 2007, 3,010 EU laws became UK law, while only 993 EU regulations were repealed – a net gain of 2,017 extra laws.

The pace at which new EU laws were promulgated also increased at a record speed, with a net gain of over 2,000 new laws in both 2006 and 2007, compared to an annual average net gain of only 942 new laws between 1998 and 2007. Almost half of the extra 9,415 EU laws created in the 10 years to the end of 2007 were introduced in 2006 and 2007. Ben Farrugia, a policy analyst at the TPA, says: “Despite EU rhetoric about reducing regulation, it is growing at a record rate.”

Did you know that between the signing of the Magna Carta (1215), and when Nu Labia came to power (1997), we managed to survive all that time on a maximum of less than 3,800 seperate acts of legislation (laws).

Since Nu Labia came to power, they have introduced over 3000 new laws, of which every single one was already covered under existing legislation.

The 3000+ new laws we have seen since 97 haven't improved the quality of life for anyone, but it's sure as shit made it easier to rake the money in  ;)

Here's one for yer. As some of you know I like a spot of sea fishing. The EU "artical 47" states that all fish caught in british waters from boats even pleasure craft should be included in the UK fish quotas. All pleasure anglers will be expected to keep a log of all fish caught. If you do not you will be subject to prosecution and huge fines.  >:(
