Title: Politics (sorry)
Post by: mantahatch on 30 September 2009, 21:53:39
Now before we start, Please everyone I don't want this to turn into an argument.

I am sure some of you are aware of my political views, but the question is why do you support your particular political party.
I will start with the main reason for supporting the party I do.

I tend to be right wing because my great grandparents where quite well off business owners. And the left wing government nationalised there business, it is something we as a family have never fully come to terms with. So the idea of voting left wing to me is wrong.
I would add that I am far from well off, in fact if I had to describe my position in society I would say working class, as I work, live in an average house and drive a an average car, just guess that I am joe average.

Please remember this post is not for argueing, just for giving reasons for why you support who you do.  :)

I'm not loyal to any party in particular. I read up before each election and (maybe in error) place my X with whomever has the best policies for me. This seems to have failed me every time as the parties in question do a sharp 'U' turn as soon as they have the seat. Maybe I need to start supporting my local independant candidate!

I have always been a supporter of personal freedom, private enterprise, democracy and small government. Instinctively, therefore, I have always gravitated towards to the Conservatives. At the moment, however, I am unsure whether they still uphold these values. :-/

I no you said this a joke Doug, but I really don't want an argument, I am truly interested in why people vote the way they do. I have reached that age when curiosity has got the better of me, and would just like to understand a bit more.

I am more anti Labour than pro a party.

I suppose the TSR2 cancellation and scrapping and my dad was RAF mechanic at the time, it all rubs off.

Then the mess in the mid 70s

like Zulu - i don't have a "team", I don't agree 100% with any single political party but i look at the best fit for who i want running the country and what party would do the best job.
As it stands, the SNP have done a decent enough job since coming to power - progressive with commonsense policies.
General Election, as it stands right now I'd vote LibDem or Labour, I think the recession still has a way to go before its played out and I would trust either of those parties to lead us out without creating mass unemployment  :y
