I thought the "slack jawed yokels" read the daily mail.

the mail is read by the delusional, gullible and paranoid and harks back to some idealised vision of britain which never existed

the express is similar, but slightly less nasty

the mirror is read by well meaning idiots

the star isnt a newspaper

the guardian - carrot munching tree huggers

the telegraph - retired colonels, tory peers, old money

the times is for people who like to read a good paper but don't know why

the independant - no one

i think that covers all the bases - any questions?  ;D

Wont find any arguments from me supprting the Sun,although I wouldnt be so condescending about its readers as some of you.
The Gaurdian however is a paper which in my view should never again be read by any right thinking British national.
It had a invitation only breakfast at the Grand Hotel in Brighton this week and one of the invited guests was a certain Martin Mcguiness, the man who was chief of staff of the IRA at the time tey blew up that same hotel and tried to murder the whole of the British cabinet in one go.
This breakfast was very close to the 25th anniversary of the event in which 5 people were murdered and 34 very seriously injured/maimed.Sick is what I call it. >:( >:( >:(
Incidentally Mcguiness was sporting a Labour guest pass during his stay as he was invited by party members. The war on terror ? dont even get me rather started. >:( >:( >:( >:(

...it's part of the so-called 'price of peace' championed by the 'hit and run' Premier (Blair).

This is where today's headline is considered more important than the future effects of such grandiose thinking.

Although we mock the Sun,it is the biggest selling paper in the country (sadly) ,it has since the days of Thatcher had the power to swing elections and has often done so.Before the 97 election Brown flew to Australia to speak to Rupert Murdoch personally in order to obtain the backing of the Sun before the election. So if Brown wasnt already finished he is now.
Personally I think its very undemocratic that Murdoch should be able to have this level of power/influence/thought control in this country and the U.S. not to mention Australia. >:(
Here is a song about him. ;)

Nothing like a bit of non discriminatory stereotyping eh

This thread smacks of a " if you dont read what i like then theres something wrong with you"

Not a good impression from a forum and i`ll bet a fair few silent folk that have read this will find the original post both patronising and condescending :(

Got to say its the first thread that i have looked at since coming online to OOF today and it wouldnt be one that would encourage me to read more or join if i was new.

In fact it would probably lead to me stereotyping everyone on here if i didnt know there was some fantastic members.

This had to arise i guess. Jeremy Drone (Vine) jumped on it for his show today (saw that coming a mile off, dull tinker).
At the end of the day they all promise the world to get the vote then balls it up when they get voted in. There is no real difference between the tabloid & broadsheet press other than the broadsheets drag any issue out into pages instead of a paragraph.
Press should'nt influence voters & this topic does'nt merit discussion...only in my opinion of course! :D

There is a very big difference between them Amigo! :o :o :o

The tabloids go for simple single sentence paragraphs with limited referencing and fact, with often sensationalistic tones to excite their readership.

The broadsheets use multi-sentence paragraphs containing much referencing and fact in a statement like style to educate and inform their readership. ;) ;) ;) ;)

My own view is that NO element of the mainstream media is trustworthy these days. That includes all the broadsheets and the BBC.

Obviously, not all you read or hear is untrue. However my experience is that, in the mainstream, journalism is a dead art.  :(

..and the ironic thing about BJ's list is that, while the Guardian & BBC actively censor anti-AGW comments, Glenn Beck on Fox News is practically the ONLY mainstream outlet which airs the climate realist viewpoint.  ;)

I watched FNC for a long time - only for Greta van Susteren mind you - but I have to say Nick that the views of O'Reilly, Hannity and now Beck are strident to say the least.

..and the ironic thing about BJ's list is that, while the Guardian & BBC actively censor anti-AGW comments, Glenn Beck on Fox News is practically the ONLY mainstream outlet which airs the climate realist viewpoint.  ;)

I watched FNC for a long time - only for Greta van Susteren mind you - but I have to say Nick that the views of O'Reilly, Hannity and now Beck are strident to say the least.

Of those names, I am familiar only with Beck. In his case, i can happily overlook stridency if that is the price to pay for getting the right message (on AGW) across. More power to him!  :y

....am 75% with you on that, irrespective of the messenger, the message on this needs more widespread exposure :y

Martin, I know you know, but for any others reading this thread, AGW is the acronym for Anthropogenic Global Warming, i.e. man-made.  :y

Nothing like a bit of non discriminatory stereotyping eh

This thread smacks of a " if you dont read what i like then theres something wrong with you"

correct  :y

Not a good impression from a forum and i`ll bet a fair few silent folk that have read this will find the original post both patronising and condescending :(

i think i'd find that patronising and annoying that you'd presume to know what others think or care about

Got to say its the first thread that i have looked at since coming online to OOF today and it wouldnt be one that would encourage me to read more or join if i was new.

frightened of a little adult debate? you don't read the sun by any chance?  ;D

In fact it would probably lead to me stereotyping everyone on here if i didnt know there was some fantastic members.

that sounds like you're problem m8  :-?

My own view is that NO element of the mainstream media is trustworthy these days. That includes all the broadsheets and the BBC.

Obviously, not all you read or hear is untrue. However my experience is that, in the mainstream, journalism is a dead art.  :(

sadly true, with a few notable exceptions (the telegraph going through mp's expenses exhaustively springs to mind)
