Is a CRB check worth anything at all. All the talk the other week that was to require parents transporting their kids mates to football, swimming events etc to have a check on them, jut shows that they're targeting the wrong people. Scum like those in the news will never miss an opportunity to put them selves into the postitions/jobs they want.

To be honest as a taxi driver,I've had to get checked out every 3 years and it seems pointless and i know and person that spent time in jail and an other that sexually harassed a woman and an other who hit a off duty copper and these never showed up on the checks. If your a rapist, pedo and have never been caught the checks will show a clear report.Yes it will catch some but other will be left to carrying on.If i didn't know the person i wouldn't let my kids go out with them.Friends and neighbours who your kids have probably grown up with for years and you know them well,i can see a problem. Some people that just take their and your kid to school, pictures and days out probably cant afford the £50 or so

CRB is only any good if the person concerned has a criminal history, and even then, sometimes doesn't serve it's true purpose.
I know a teacher who was not given a job because he had a spent criminal damage conviction. Bloody good teacher as well.

i have for many years had to have an enhanced C R B
for my ambulance work then moved to Gibraltar and handed them my still in date C R B they said no we will have to do our own checks with the Gibraltar police to check your record well suprise suprise nothing held on file against me as i only lived there for 3 days what a joke i could have been anybody or done anything in the UK and they were not interested so now have a new check form not worth the paper it is written on :-[

I used to be a cabbie, Lewes district council issued me with a Hackney licence. Many years ago now so no crb. They were more concerned with the police check as you took folk to the airport for their hols so you knew their house was empty. Despite a criminal record for car theft i passed.
I used to do a twice daily school run for special needs children. One run was 3 girls, the other was an autistic boy which involved a lady escort so was never alone with the child on that one. I was however alone with the 3 girls but the risk of accusation never occurred to me until now.
I find it difficult to see how some undesirables take advantage of vulnerable naive children, they must have their own inadequacies to do something so unspeakable.
We can at least rest in the knowledge that they won't do easy time, i've been away more than once & despite the fact they are sectioned mistakes are made!!!!

In my view it's primarily about PR, ass covering and ill thought- out policies that have been applied in a half-assed way with no consideration given to the practical results of such action ;)

Assault on the old bill does show up if you have the conviction, but that on it's own doesn't preclude you from working with under 16's or the vulnerable.

It's a Nulab invention, and, therefore, by definition, a knee-jerk reaction to yesterday's headlines that has never been reviewed by someone who knows his onions (i.e. not a politician ;D).
Just like identity cards, scrappage, etc. etc.

It didn't show up because he applied 1 week before the court cases. The driver has now got a suspended sentence but as his CRB is not due for 2 years he's still working

spot on zulu - its purely to limit liability in my opinion - as you say its an ass covering exercise :o

The 'Police check' has been replaced by the CRB or in some cases, an enhanced CRB which looks at National Information rather than just local, and may include certain Police 'intelligence' information (I think) Having a conviction it it's own right does not necessarily mean you can't get the Job, it may be totally unrelated and therefore not relevant.
Regarding children, even the enhanced CRB will not show anything if you have not been prosecuted or aroused suspicion or have simply not been caught.
