I enquired today about an apprenticeship, now I know i'm knocking on a bit but I thought the only way out of this unemployment was for some training. Have a guess how much an hour they are paying?
-
Opps, do they do apprenticeships on how to post on the correct forum ::)

£5.75 an hour

Not a lot .. but the only "apprentices" I have ever worked with knew nothing, did nothing, and were worth nothing until they actualy realised they were there to learn and not for a holiday.

Errr minimum wage for 21+ is £5.80
-
£3.25? ::)
-
£2.37 per hour or £95 per week for the first year then on to minimum wage :o
-
I believe apprentices for the first year fall outside the minimum "wage" as they are not considered to be "workers" but "trainees". Once they have done a year they can do some "work" and so are now due the minimum wage...

wtf! :o :o :o :o :o :o
No wonder fewer people want to get a trade nowadays :(
-
That is bloody disgraceful! It is nothing short of exploitation :(
When I first started my apprenticeship in 1969 I was paid the princely sum of 10 pence an hour (£4.00 a week). It was 'on the job training' & you weren't told twice! You picked up the job very quickly in those days, and the blokes were damn good teachers too! :y

Aye when I joined the Army you were taught by the Signals twins..... Hurts and Megahurts :y

If you go back ... historically Apprentices were not paid at all.. in fact their families paid for them to be "apprenticed" and to learn a trade ....
A feature that realised that having an apprentice to get under your feet to teach actually slowed work down and reduced profitability....
BTW ... apprentices also had to live with the craftsman who taught them .. :)

My Nephew just did 5 years apprenceship straight from school as a welder/pipefitter, they paid him minimum wage from day 1. The second he was fully qualified they let him go. He got top marks all the way through colledge and reckon he was one of the best they had seen.
One companys loss is annothers gain.
Is there no way you can get that money made up Pete, there are so many benefits out the like family vredit etc, but not sure what you cab quailfy for.
It just stinks, they make a law with the minimum wage and then make rules so it can be avoided. :(
