Fortunately I don't watch Coronation Street so I'll miss the ad. break.
LONDON - The government is to launch a controversial £6m ad campaign aimed at global warming sceptics, in which a British town is shown submerged under water.
The campaign, created by AMV BBDO, will launch during Coronation Street on ITV1 this evening.
Given global warming is not accepted as scientific fact by a large and usually silent part of the scientific community fearful of a backlash, the campaign could provoke anger that the government is broadcasting political messages with taxpayer's money.
The creative is hard-hitting, and as such could also become controversial due to its alarmist tone.
It is designed to make adults feel guilty about the legacy they will leave their children and features a father telling his daughter a bedtime story of "a very very strange" world with "horrible consequences" for today's children.

I've been trying to warn you all. This is just the start.

And what about that "British town submerged under water?"
Look at the FACTS:
Sheerness: Trend 0.54 feet in 100 years.

North Shields: Trend: 0.62 feet in 100 years.

But everyone knows sea levels are rising all over the globe.....oh yeah, try telling that to the Swedes:?

My blood is beginning to boil!
Hopefully, the public will stand up to this naked propaganda. Bring on the lawsuits. They are telling lies.

im with you nickbat, i wonder when an advert proving this is garbage will be shown? i wont hold my breath >:( >:( >:(

It's causing a stir already:
Philip Stott, Emeritus Professor of Biogeography at the University of London and a critic of the Government’s plan to cut CO2, said the advert was an attempt to manipulate people with alarmist language and apocalyptic imagery. “It is straight out of Orwell’s 1984: an attempt to control with images of a perpetual war against something, in this case climate change.”

This will hardly lower the temperature then;

and meet environmental targets.
missed renewable and carbon targets –
and climate change targets
....these excerpts taken from that report show the current thinking and give an early indication of how each and every one of us will have to find the money to meet the higher bills which will follow in the wake of these green initiatives - irrespective of the market cost of the energy we will use.

.....Aah the stock-in-trade of an old Establishment hack like me, nothing like a bit of drip, drip, drip to set the scene and await the inevitable opportunistic moment.
It's like the old days again 8-) 8-) - now where did I put that Model 59? ;D ;D

where is earnest,is it near jepordy where all those jobs are? :o

Most folk put the kettle on during the adverts. So the governments plea for us to save energy will be met with a huge power surge the length and breadth of the country. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Delicious.

Couple of replies posted by commenters at the WUWT website (which means news of this poisonous ad has gone worldwide..)

"This is nothing less than government-sponsored child abuse and indoctrination, a typical outgrowth of any fundamentalist religion. That even the zealots at Nature (a recognized center of climate alarmism) finds this campaign beyond the pale is telling."
"The country is essentially bankrupt and yet £6m can be found to fund propaganda."
BUT, wait a minute, if you believe all the cr*p in the clip, surely this can't be true:
"It seems the debate about what is causing global warming is far from over. Indeed some would say its hotting up."
Some cherry-picked sceptic site? (as Optimist or Bannjaax would say ;) )
Why, no! The BBC, yes the BBC - today!!. Maybe someone has cottoned on to this "science is settled" fraud and wants to start backing towards the door.....

It has been coming for about two decades at least.
Much of the Thatcher years and all of the Newlabour years have been based on fraud.
The complacency and greed within governments results in incompetent decision making and forward planning. The only way to hold onto control and power is through lies and fear.We must all be submissive or else.Take all our money through tax and inflation, control our every move with cctv, and install fear through lies and propoganda.
'Gerrymander' those who rely on help and benefits
for 'short term' votes.
This country is no longer 'earning' enough to keep us all comfortable into our old ages. The government knows this so the short term measure is to control us with the doomsday nonsense.Long enough to keep themselves cosy.I dont know what happens after that ?
-
Calm down dear, it's only a commercial.. :D
-
I have just filed a complaint to the ASA. Let's see what happens. :y

What the Amateur Swimming Association.. what are they going to do, ;)
We need more people like you Nickbat to stand up for our rights mate..

Whether we accept Global Warming as a fact or a fiction, our unprecedented reliance on fossil fuels has to be changed, because one thing we can all agree on is they ain't gonna last forever. The whole debate over whether Global Warming is scientific fact or something akin to the perpetual war of Orwells 1984 or indeed The War On Terror is redundant. The debate should be about how we go about reducing our addiction to what is an unsustainable energy source, irrespective of whether or not it is damaging the environment, and, possibly leading us down the road to further global unrest as its scarcity provokes panic and fear amongst those most addicted as they seek out their next hit of blessed crude.I am not fully swayed either way over global warming but I can not argue a case for sticking my head in the sand and passing on a world to my grandchildren that is energy bankrupt when with a little forethought and courage we could start to meet the demands on our planet for energy in better ways than simply setting fire to bits we dig up.

No one is talking about "sticking our head in the sand", but there is a gulf of difference between, on the one hand, a rational debate about the climate, our future energy sources (and the encouragement of research & development in new greener technology through enterprise) and, on the other, being lied to, fed propaganda, losing our freedom, and possibly having our whole way of life in the west destroyed on the altar of bogus science...and all for politics, not the improvment of our environment.
The amount of money being poured into this scam could, if used justly, provide clean water and food to those who need them, protect rainforests and, through tax breaks, inspire the development of new technology for a cleaner and greener world.
The crux of the issue is that I am totally opposed to government propaganda. >:(
BTW, there's plenty of oil around for several decades, if not more.

....that is the crucial point Nick and if anyone was able to catch the full interview with Joan Ruddock on BBC 24 this morning it would be plain to see that this administration is now being quite open about it.
Can't get through to the adults so we'll have a go at the children instead :o :o
