Don't forget to take in to account Vr, Vc, or Vl (depending on what you intend to plug in).

Keep the suggestions coming, I'm just as comfortable with car electrics as what I am domestic & commercial  ;D

Might be an idea if you tell us what your mate thinks he's plugging in, because those el cheapo extension leads tend to act as the fuse BEFORE the actual fuse in the car gets a look in.

 ;D

There's also the fact that the lighter socket isn't permanently live. You'd need to leave the keys in the ignition.

I just use a jump-start battery pack in the tent. Not worth messing about connecting up to the car IMHO.

Spot on Kev  :y

They are useless for starting anything that has a real engine, but (as you say) great for powering up miscellaneous crap in the tent.

I just read this and as Kevin said the cig socket wont be live anyway with keys out of the ignition on the Omega assuming it is an Omega of course  :y

I was using one of these
(http://www.towsure.com/home/images/products/a270.jpg)
for my telly (about 4A IIRC) in the caravan. The telly stopped when it all melted because nothing had been tightened up, and one of the terminals had more insulation under the screw than wire!  >:(  >:(

Cut the insulation back and look at the actual conductor size, you'll shit yourself once basic electrics are explained to you  ;)

It's probably on its limit, but the actual cable/conductor size would likely be OK .... if the plug terminals had been tightened up properly.

I can do multi-skilled electrics.  ;)

Anyone can connect a bit of wire Andy, doing the math before you start is the bit that requires thought  ;)

Not at all, just letting you know that there is more to Franklin's baby than what most people realise....hence the reason for some of the "seemingly" daft regulations in place these days.

It's the bad examples (caused by the DIY'r, relative/neighbour that knows all about that stuff, eastern european who will do the job for £500 less than me, etc) that lines my pocket quite nicely  :y

Just a shame that the new laws coming in will drop my earning potential  :'(

Hi KW, do you have any info/links on the new laws please. I am not an spark but work with 2 of them who take great delight in constantly telling me I can't have that because of regulation X.

Thanks
