Title: can anyone help?
Post by: davealan on 12 October 2009, 16:10:27
Hello to you all who are here. I need a little advice and Jon at JPAT transmissions gave me the forums name. The thing is, I have a 1994 vauxhall monterey 3.2ltr ltd with a GM 4L30E automatic gearbox and I was wondering if any one knows where I can get the box overhauled near Cambridge. Or if anyone knows where i can get a overdrive one way clutch hub. I have had a word with JPAT and they no longer keep this type of hardware anymore. Can anyone help !!!!! All advice gratefully received. davealan.

Hello and welcome to the forum :y :y

The only place I can think of for an overhaul in on Mersea Island near Colchester. They really know their stuff but aren't cheap... May be better off trying to find a second hand/recon box and swapping them over :-/ :-/

Not aware of overhaullers - as Omegas are always being broken, we tend to swap entire box when they fail, as there is plentiful supply, keeping them to about £60-£80 for 2nd hand replacement.

My thoughts as well!

Anyway, go for an AR35 from a 3.0 Omega

A feature that you won't find on just about any Vauxhall (although the Monteray isn't really VX anyway).

@ the OP

Grab yourself a 5 speed manual box (with transfer box of course), flywheel, and clutch assembly (including pedal & master cylinder) from an Isuzu Bighorn/Trooper.
Everything will fit, because all Vx did was copy the Japanese anyway.

Thank you to you all that replied. I was thinking, the only problem I can see is getting a trooper/bighorn with a 3.2 ltr V6 with a manual box of the year around 1994 I know there is a lot of manual boxes for the 3.1 ltr diesel, but i belive the crankshaft to flywheel mounting fixtures are different and there was not a lot of manual boxes with a 3.2ltr V6 petol. However I do know that some of the later troopers fitted with the V6 3.5ltr  had a manual box.
Once again thank you for all of your replies.

Isuzu used the 3.2 V6 from 1992 through to 1998.

Like you say though, the difficulty is going to be in finding...

1. One that had a manual box as most were auto (although that would do you anyway).
2. Actually finding one for sale to start with

You can go with an AR35 from an Omega as already suggested by Mark DTM, but you will obviously lose the ability to have 4WD at that point.
