Define "crap pay"
If you left school/college with no qualifications then consider yourself lucky to have a job.
Similarly, if you have a trade under your belt then it's £500 as an absolute minimum you should be taking home.

I actually enjoy my job. Lots of good benefits, good pay, excellent pension... makes up for the loss of some civil liberties and the business trips I have to make. That said it's not everyone's cup of tea :y
-
i like my job too, very good money for my age, 3 days on 3 days off structure. Strong possibility of it going from contract to perm soon.
I left school with poor GCSE's but turned it around, went to college, then uni, i now earn in a day what some of my class mates at school now earn in a week.

I have a trade, apprenticeship indentures and many years experience, and I can only dream of earning that much! :o
Unless you're on about monthly pay...............

What trade is it?
I think KillerWatt is referring to weekly pay, i am 25, and i take over double that per week.

.... and i take over double that per week.
So was I when I was contracting & working via an agency .... the company doesn't have holiday or sick pay etc to provide.

Holiday and sick pay is worth a lot, my contract is up in 2 months, and there is strong chance they will offer me perm. As long as its reasonable money i will take it, benefits add up to a lot :)

That's the only time I was earning that kind of dosh.
I suppose I have a few trades but sometimes associated - welding and fabrication, mechanical fitting, HGV maintenance and coachbuilding with quals in all of them.
Starting a new job on Monday, going back (this time on the books) to building rescue submarines and ROV's as a mechanical fitter, it's less money than contracting, but permanent, sick pay, hol pay, BUPA, Asian, US and EU work (hopefully) etc yada, blah. Can't wait, as I REALLY enjoyed it when I was simply contracting there up until January
:y
Good job my missis gets paid handsomely - and she's only got an A level in art! ;D

Cheers, Andy - hope your lass's job turns out to be OK though.

She's still waiting for a reply from her union rep. But the way things are going at the moment her boss (who manage his way out of a wet paper bag >:( ) is likely to get a conversation along the lines of
Take your job & shove it up your ...... ::) ::) ::) ::) :y
