Just been watching a discussion about this on question time, most of the audience and the panel dont think he should have gone to prison.Personally I do.
-
Yes :o
-
Bloody right he should. >:(
Not sure if I'm more shocked at his actions or the panel.
Kevin
-
I was shocked as well - 3 Y/O smoking :o :o
Yes it is child abuse
-
I get the impression he had trained the kid like a performing monkey,as he thought it was funny which is why he showed people the trick and even got them to film it.Definetily abuse imo.I too was very surprised that the panel thought prison was probably too harsh.

Which is a real worry, and yes it is Child Abuse. What gets me though is that there are parents and others who get nothing like that sentence for worse offences against children. Not wanting to get into a debate on 'worse' it is all subjective, but believe me it is true. The sentencing of people for 'Child Abuse' in its' many forms rarely seems to fit the offence and varies dramatically :-X

Why ?
What law did he break ?
none - as far as i am aware of
did he force her ?
No - she asked him for a tab
result - 18 month sentence
for reference:-
Vanessa George's sentence for multiple serious offense's ~4 years
-
I think prison is probably a little harsh. I am not agreeing with what he has done, but I feel it would have been better to give him a suspended sentence and a mandatory parenting course.
Obviously a good going over by a social worker, just to make sure the children are safe.
Read the paper in any major city and every month there are people downloading child porn and not going to jail. The law is disproportional.
Havign said that, we (the public) don't know the full story, there is a chance that there was other factors that the judge is aware of, but we aren't.
-
Just to be awkward, what about the two women who forced there kids to fight each other, did they go to prison ?
If they did then fair enough this bloke should go to prison.
However this does strike me as one law for men and one law for women.

to be honest the bloke is a complete and utter moron and needs to be taught a lesson but passive smoking is just as bad and i see plenty of people doing that with out going to prison. But if everything else is ok then being told the errors of his ways and set straight would of been sufficiant. But now the little girl has lost her dad for nearly two years and i hope that poor little girl is not taken in by social services or some one else that will cause her any harm.

Ditto.
Telling a child that they were/are not wanted is probably just as harmful but is never likely to get corrected. :(

Allowing a child of THREE to smoke is definitely a form of abuse. She would have had to be shown how to smoke a fag for a start, and she had obviously smoked more than a few times before.
Even a complete moron knows that it can only be harmful to such a young kid, deserves all he gets. You can't compare it to other mentioned cases very easily, as most people would agree that those sentences are too light as well >:(

Is this necessarily a bad thing?

Almost certainly.

Yes, thinking about it, you're probably right, but he would need regular and frequent visits from a social worker - obviously doesn't know how to look after his kid properly
-
The thing is we never get to find out all the facts and make up our own conclusion to it without knowing the full story. Another thing is i dont see any thing about a mother mentioned any were so maybe he is a single parent and just made a big fu$% up.
-
No he should NOT have been sent to prison. They should have BURNT the lowlife bas***d! >:(

Yet again social workers to the rescue? surely a bit of sense would be a bit better?does he deserve to have kids >:(
