Well I now have mmy elite estate parked up on the drive, awaiting collection by the insurance appointed garage! >:(
Coming home tonight, just round the corner from home. Open T junction, nice clear view, nothing to my left and only one car a decent distance up the hill to my right, plenty of time.... or so I thought.
What I had not noticed was just how fast this muppet was coming down the hill!
Half way through manoevre I notice VERY rapidly approaching Focus!
Booted mine, and almost made it....
He hit my o/s/r quarter.
This was a 30mph residential road but this driver was clearly driving rather faster (45-50) so he was unable to slow down enough to avoid the collision. Bl**dy idiot!
Oh the fun and games of insuance, sensible courtesy car, decent settlement etc...again (I had another Omega written off 18 months ago when I was rear ended at 30mph sitting at traffic lights!)... I can hardly wait! >:(
Both of us are fine, but I know my car will not see the road again.
On a lighter note. That is now 2 out of 3 admins who have had an accident recently. ;D
Feeling twitchy TheBoy?? ;D
AA will never have an accident as a 2.2 never goes quick enough to damage anything! ;)

Balls Dave!! What a PITA!!
At least you're ok though that's the main thing!!
Chin up chap!!
-
Glad to hear your ok Dave thats the main thing.
T junctions seam to be dangerous places for Omega's in the Derby Notts area! ::)
-
Thats bad news Dave.....least your OK....
-
Sorry to here about that L.B like you say "fun and games" time with the insurance just going through a claim myself and its a real PITA >:(
-
Just waiting for the offer...when they ask me what grounds of knowledge I have for my figure... ;D
"Do you know much about these cars then sir?".... ;)
-
If I remember rightly Dave the last time you had dealings with a settlement offer the insurance company offerer you trade price for your motor "barstewards" TAKE NO PRISONERS DAVE"

1) I dunno, it's all relative really, do you know much about insurance ??
2) Just hand me the Chequebook Kiddo, we're going shopping.....
3) Specifically, to the other party's insurers : " There's a Guy in Oxford wants to string up both you and your client by the testes, and play swing ball with your heads. ... Pay up and i won't give him your name, or address. "

They did mate... initially!
I got what I wanted in the end though, through being persistant, firm and putting across a strong a reasoned argument!
The funniest thing about all this though....
The nominated garage by the insurance company.... is the main Ford Dealership in Derby!! ;D
And if they try to give me (6' 3" 17 stone) a :-Xing Ka as a courtesy car, they will find I am not their typical brainless sheep of a customer! ;)
-
Oh dear Dave - make sure you keep any difficult to get bits
-
3.0 cams are already sold to me. So is the gearbox. And the wood trim. And the alloys. And the leather seats, load cover, tow bar and headlights. But, as this is a genuine mate of mine I have made sure he got a decent price.
By the way dave, cash ok? You've got change of £20 haven't you?
:y
Seriously, I am glad you are ok mate. Could have been very nasty injuries to you if that focus had damaged my new gearbox!
-
Sorry to hear, glad you're OK. Every now and then other drivers catch you out. :-/
Jaime, drive the Rover for the next 2 months! ;)
-
Really sorry to hear that. It's bad enough to have your car damaged but like you say it's doubly bad to think about all the insurance hassles that are no doubt ahead. At least no one was hurt. Hope it turns out OK for you.
Kevin
-
Sorry to hear this Dave.. End of the day though, it's a lump of metal.. as long as you're unhurt.
Hopefully liability is decided in your favour...
-
LB66 - glad no one was hurt. Cars we can replace, but I sympathise with the paper fight you have in front of you.
Persevere, it will resolve itself.

As it is 5am and I know where Laidback lives, does anyone need any parts? :D

Cheeky burger! I have been to bed and had my sleep - I haven't just crawled in from a heavy night out like you youngsters!!! ;D
No, I am up early because I need some spare parts and Laidback doesn't get up THAT early, so.....
Anyone want an engine, gearbox, headlights, alloy wheels? All going cheap. Just don't tell Dave!
-
I command thee, stop so evidently enjoying his discomfort, sir funky chicken McB ..... tis unseemly , and forsooth, not without it's perils....
'King Max.
::)

Shocked to here it, glad you're OK.
Do you know which way the insurance is going to swing?
Presumably this was the estate, not the MV6?

I'm off to South Oxfordshire in a while.... :-/

Sounds like the same scenario as me......so it will be against laidback66's insurance I suspect.....which means basic or no courtesy car....
Trouble is, its a right of way violation and you cant prove speed.....

Unless the Focus skidded (few have ABS etc), in which case get the police to measure the skid marks, or if they won't, photograph and measure yourself....
-
It still makes no odds....
1) The Police wont be in the least bit interested
2) Neither will the insurance company
3) You can not prove the skid marks were from that car as its now been moved....
4) The insurance companies just want to pick the easiest solution....not plough extra K's into investigating further particularly as nobody was hurt....
Game set and match I am afraid.....been there, done that......

:'(
Someone did the same against me, and won (measured from the start of first skidmark to end of last - bloody Escort kept locking up). Was about 15 yrs ago though....

Sorry to hear about your car LB. :(
Insurance company will probably find you blameworthy since you failed to give way to approaching car. Mitigation is clearly that the car was travelling too fast but they will state that a quick glance ain't enough; that you should have looked, seen and assessed speed of approaching vehicle before committing to turn. It does suck though!!!!
Police won't touch this with a barge pole as no injuries.
You sure that boy racer is insured?
-
where there's a blame there's a claim mate!
has the focus driver admitted liabilty as well as stupidity?
-
No one is admitting anything yet... especially me! ;)
I know I am almost certainly fighting a lost cause, but it won't stop me trying my best (I'm stubborn like that!).
Garage are collecting car Monday and I can't get a courtesy car until Tuesday! >:(
-
If there are any marks, backed by actual measurements, independant witnesses, snapshots from a camera phone or similar, gives a shout. Might be able to help with some sums as regards time/distance, limited distance, minimum speed, speed of vehicle from brake wheel mark left etc etc.
Obscured view by roadsigns, bus stops, trees, bushes, bend in the road, verges, fences, walls, pedestrians etc?
(you'd never guess I do such things through work as well, so deemed as an expert witness in Court circles... ;) )

Good on ya Dave :y
When i had my last 'own fault' accident ..... i just went with the flow......was offered crappy loan car.....but no good to me....so i hired one for three weeks at my expense (it needed to be a private hire car) . But make sure you shop around next time insurance is due......my comp tried to put my premium up by £400.....coz of the accident.....i shopped around and got it cheaper than i was paying before :y
-
Had exactly the same as you but in reverse. Car driven by 2 pikies pulled out of a side turning, wet and dark and... Bang. Checked registration & details with a plod mate, and they did'nt match. "Well there's a funny thing" Insurance did'nt care, just paid out. They do not care if there's no personal injury. They can't be bothered to get these a**holes off the road. Maybe if they speed they might get them ;D Glad you and yours are ok.
-
BTW I Didn't know you had a 3ltr estate. The best. Sorry.
-
Well things are progressing at a pace.
Yep, insurance are not interested, they are not even sending me an accident form!
They have written off the Omega (which is now back on my drive and will become many parts when all is sorted) and I have a Toyota Yaris :-? that I have to give back today...
Yes sir, you can have a courtesy car, for 3 days!
Sorry? 3 days??
Yes, the time it takes for the assesor to come and check.
If your car is stolen or written off as "uneconomical" to repair we do not provide a courtesy car....
Bl**dy insurance companies! >:(
I have also received my first "offer" ;D of settlement.. we have a way to go yet....
-
Not surprised....
The courtesy cars in such cases are provided by the repair agent....if it aint repairable, they want it back.
Remember, refuse the first two.....
As for the skids marks, in my accident they were on my bonnet so no hope of measuring them....!!!
-
Wow sorry to hear it, sounds like it's going to be a lot of hassle but at least you're OK. I can't see you getting out of liability either TBH, even if you can prove the guy was speeding they'll probably go 50-50 at best.
-
Remember, refuse the first two.....
I didn't so much refuse the first one as openly laugh at him! ;D
I can see it is going to need the same approach I took last time to get a sensible offer.
-
A mate of my wife pulled out of a junction onto a main road and got T-boned by a biker doing (in her opinion) an utterly stupid speed. He appeared from nowhere out of a bend not far from the junction. The accident was fully investigated as the biker was injured. It was proven that there was a badly placed sign which restricted her view of the road to the direction from which the bike came and that the biker was doing well over the speed limit but she still got done for dangerous driving and the claim was awarded in the biker's favour.
The court decided that whatever other factors were taken into consideration the bottom line was that the biker had right of way.
There's no room for common sense or judgement in motoring law these days, so it seems.

Definately 1st offer refuse......i know slightly different....i got rear ended...in my merc....i claimed whiplash/etc.....offered £1900 for compensation.....solicitor advised take it.....i said no...within 4 hours the offer had been upped to £2.5k...i took that ;)
