Title: Weird eyesight problem
Post by: Martin_1962 on 14 October 2009, 23:59:50
3 times now, I lose the ability to read and just see blobs in the detail area, cannot see text, but can see to walk.

Happened middle of last year and happened this afternoon.

Doctors think migrain, but no pain.

I did try some apple flavoured medicine and finding the correct change was a nightmare, but my 10 minutes taking my medicine did help a little.

Also for some reason I lose the ability to worry about it :o :o :o :o

I went to the doctor's to due to numberplates appearing blurred to me at a short distance, while i could still recognise the cars, cars closer i could recognise and read the plates.

Doctor said diabetic, and then confirmed with blood tests

Stress and tiredness are 2 things I would consider.

My eyes started to hurt again yesterday.  (3rd or 4th time in 2 weeks)  But I know I am really lacking a good night's sleep and have a lot of cathing up to di, which hopefully starts tomorrow when my new bed finally arrives. (only been waiting since I moved in May)

Plus stress (in my case), they say moving home is sometimes the most stress people go through, I didnt believe that at 1st, but I do now.  The moving bit wasnt too bad.  It's all the hassle of organising it, some of it was smooth and other bits were a night mare.  Gladly that looks like all loose ends will be tied up by the end of the month.

Finace is annother one. Thinking over some of your posts in the last few months Martin you have had a few issues like the rest of us.  Maybe a visit to the optician rather than the Doctor would be more benificial.  That have all the equipment, it could be something or nothing.  Stress, fatigue, finance.

Either way, worth checking out  :y  (Keep us informed)

I've suffered Migrains since I was about 13 and I know everyone has different symptoms, but that is very similar to what I get.

It's very difficult to describe, its like you've looked at a bright light and then looked away. It's the black shadow thats left there.

I rarely get a full blown headache after this unless I have a few more symptons, numbness in my nose and fingers :-? and as well as the sight thing I also get something where its as though I can see a fan spinning around in my periferal vision. Then I know im going to be hurting.

It comes on so quick that im sure my wife thinks im telling porkies about it.

Only ever found one thing that helps, Lucozade Isotonic, and even then it only helps 20% of the time.

Been diabetes tested, blood pressure checked (bit high) but have never found a reason, although with all my current financial problems I have noticed they are coming about a bit more often. :( :(

Spot on -- more common than you might think. I get it regularly -- it was an optician who diagnosed it in the end. When it first happened I thought I was having a minor stroke !!!!  Be thank ful you don't get the pain as well.

Tie your hands behind your back  ::)

I had mine lasered a few years ago --- bloody painful, but well worth it --- things have improved since then and I gather it's not really bad at all.

The way I see it ( or not, as the case might be ) is if the eyesight goes, at least you don'd see the bits that start to fall off when old age gets a grip  ::)

its worth having it done then, how long does it last before they start getting bad again.

I was extremely short sighted and had them done about 12 years ago. About a year ago I started to get longsighted ( which was expected, (advancing years!) so need goggles to read now) -- but my distance vision is still near perfect.

Got fed up of buckling my glasses when wearing a bike helmet and couldn't wear contacts when diving, so had mine zapped about 4 years ago.
Done at about 4pm and by 7pm I got bored lying around the hotel room and was out for a walk around London.
No pain at all. Not during the treatment or after.  :y

Admittedly things have improved -- but when I had mine done I was "crying" for a week solid. Actually got me a few dates too .... must have brought out the protective instincts in some women - seeing a guy in dark glasses sat at the bar with tears streaming down his face into his beer !!!!!

those that have pain such as migrane, head aches and sight disturbances(not deterioration) do you have back/or spinal  problems of any sort?

Also had a bit of pins and needles in my hands, and also had a sore throat, as to spinal I did have a very nasty fall last year.

One possibility I have read about is swine flu!!!!

Hey KW, say that when one of those doctors puts you on a 4 month course of chemotherapy for the wrongly diagnosed tumour that eventually takes nearly 2 years to be properly diagnosed & taken out just in time to save your life! 'The system' is just thast... doctors and all mate! :(

I understand your feelings Phil.  However, that was ( possibly) one mis-diagnosis by one doctor. Is the doctor that finally made the right call and seemingly saved your life a tosser too ???? Was the initial diagnosis actually made by an experienced doc, or a houseman (student!) --- the system allows life or death decisions to be made by inexperienced individuals with little supervision.

KW is right in that the system is fundamentally flawed and training young doctors VERY "old-school" ...... "I worked 28 hours a day for 8 days a week, why shouldn't they!?".

I have seen very competent young doctors reduced to helpless wrecks by the stress of their first times on the wards.

They are dropped in the deep end and left virtually unsupervised while their consultant is off playing golf or at the local private hospital, supplimenting his NHS pay.

Where else but the health service are consultants paid to be in NHS hospitals while they are off on the second job earning mega bucks ( often using NHS resources doing it).????

No ... I think KW has got it right. I revise my assessment ... it's not "fundamentally flawed" ... it IS f**ked !!!
