How much truth is there in this article?

I'm neutral on it at the moment, mainly because I'm ready for sleep.  ;)

It wouldn't really surprise me, although in the absence of hard documentary evidence, I would consider gross in competence to be the primary factor.

He defended the policy, saying mass immigration has "enriched" Britain, and made London a more attractive and cosmopolitan place.

The London I knew was attractive and cosmopolitan, I ashamed to say that in it's present incarnation it most certainly is not. >:(

Britain's borders are stronger than ever before and we are rolling out ID cards to foreign nationals, we have introduced civil penalties for those employing illegal workers and from the end of next year our electronic border system will monitor 95 per cent of journeys in and out of the UK.
“The British people can be confident that immigration is under control.”

That is very welcome news indeed; I can sleep more soundly - very well done to all concerned. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D :y

....perhaps I should add that the Home Office spokesperson when lauding the comprehensive nature of present and future border control measures forgot to mention that not only would 95% of the journeys into and out of the UK be monitored but also 95% of the journeys made within these shores will be treated to the same level of scrutiny - splendid :y
