Hello All,
I have very very few tools for use with vehicles, and as I now buy and sell cars I think it's a must I get a set. I'm trying to change the interior in my 3.2 Omega and only have 6 spanners screwdrivers and some pliers. Which are no good really.
I've had a look on the Halford website and found this...
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_232793_langId_-1_categoryId_165572
Is that going to be any good for me? And I've got to remove the front seats and there's some star shaped screw things. Please forgive my ignorance, I'm 19 and really have had no experience at all.
-
You'll need star drives for the seats. That kit doesn't have them. Don't buy cheap star drives, because they'll just either snap or round off.

I would say spend a bit more and go for the Halfords Pro range.
In fact your in luck at the moment as Halford are doing one of thier Kits half price at the mo for £99
Chris :y

You need a male T40 for the front seat :y
-

Josh I dont know what you have to spend on tools but its always better and cheaper in the long run to buy the best you can
Have a look at the Halfords 150 piece set Its £99 and a few on here have this set I would think that this would satisfy most of your needs though
If you want anything from Halfords I have a trade card here which will get you discounts on there tools
I am only over in Bicester if you are interested :y
-
get the own halfords brand 150 peice set, its often at offer at £99, its excellent has 90% of the tools you need to take an omega to bits
-
Anyone know how much this 150 peice set is on Trade card by the way :y

Not sure, but when its on offer trade card does not apply.
Josh - Can't rate the 150 Halfords set enough it has everything, spanners are a little thin and dig in, apart from that its excellent.
-
Many thanks all!
It's the 150 piece set for me then :y
-
No idea it varies on what you buy I think.
I used it the other day on a battery that was £94 and it came down to about £60 so a fair saving there :y
-
Many thanks all!

:y When you use it, keep the lid closed in the rain & if it gets damp/wet dry it out at room temp. Wipe all the pieces you use with a lightly oiled rag & this will keep em shiny 8-) & helps prevent any rust forming through the chrome.
-
There's a problem though. As i can see the 150 piece doesn't have a T40 :(

yes it does... well it did when i bought the set!

I was carefully studying the specification to see if it had one but I can't see one either, but I'm sure that's the sort of thing you could just buy on it's own...hopefully?

They must have changed the set, as i have one. :-/
But yup, they are only a couple of quid on their own
-
Is that going to be any good for me?
You get what you pay for Josh.
The link you provided is nothing more than cheap chinese crap mate.

What would you recommend KW?

What would you recommend KW?
If money was no object, you & I both know what we'd go for Pete.
Realistically though, for the person who is at least semi-serious about home servicing...2 names spring to mind straight away....Britool & Kamasa.
Some of their prices may seem a bit dear to start with, but once you've worked with them, they are easily very good value for money.

Unfortunatley also Chinese (well Taiwan. R,O,C if you wana be spot on) I bought a Britool 3/4 drive set around four months ago & it's not the Britool that was made over here. I bought a King Dick 28 piece 1/2 drive around the same time & that is quality, but the price reflected that .
I personally don't like Snap-On, but each to their own.
We are talking a nineteen year old here though matey & he's probably on a budget ;)
-
I do like king dick tools, I must admit. Built a Westfield with a cabinet full of them at a kit car show once. They raffled them off at the end. I didn't win. :'(

That's what I was trying to bear in mind when suggesting Britool & Kamasa Pete.
Doesn't surprise me to hear that Britool have lost the edge because of farming out, I'm surprised that more haven't gone the same way to be honest.
As per Kev's shout though, King Dick is another good call (waits for Tunnie to make something out of that as well)

Oh haha.
I think Halfords Professional are more than up to the job of all Omega work, i only ever snapped one doing some work on a Senator.
Good thing with halfords pro is if you do damage or snap any, they will replace them, no questions asked.

They are one of the best IMO. My set cost £208.00 & that was with 40% off for being in the trade. You only buy them once though & so in the long term they do save you the £sss
-
In fairness, If you're starting with nothing the Halfords 150 pce set isn't a bad way to get 99% of what you'll need to work on an Omega, in one box, without too much messing about, but you'd be mad to pay more than 99 quid for it so buy it when it's on offer. :y

Tunnie, by all means be constructive in your crit/recommendations but the highlight comment shows you coming across as a bit of a bell end and unwilling to listen to counter discussion.... :-/

They only thing that set misses is adapters (like the 3/4 drive) But these are easily added.
Halfords Torque wrenches are good to start with too, i have both 15-60 Nm and 60-300Nm, and with the trade card they are very reasonable.
I have a Halfords Trade card here Josh, your welcome to use it :y

I've never been concerned by peoples opinions of me. I can't be bothered to counter his childish comments anymore.

I took a 17mm socket back to Halfords recently, they changed it no questions asked.
So what you may ask, well, the thing is that it was part of a set I bought in 1989 ! :y :y :y
-
worth spending the extra due to the warranty alone, they will not cover that first set mentioned as they know it will fall to bits very quickly.
Re snap on, they are over priced, but i have splashed out on one of their ratchets, the one with the swivel head, as the mechanism is far more accurate, and reliable, for getting in tight spaces.
Halfords ratchets are ok, but they dont have the accuracy and incremental movement of the snap on and can jam and stick, as can their ratchet spanners, crap in them i guess, as air line and light lube sorts it but never ever had an issue with the snap on.
Re the halfords trade card, it cant be used in conjunction with any other offer. Still worth having though, may as well apply while your there. :-)
