"Lord Stern, the author of the influential 2006 Stern Review on the cost of tackling global warming, said that a successful deal at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December would lead to soaring costs for meat and other foods that generate large quantities of greenhouse gases.
He predicted that people’s attitudes would evolve until meat eating became unacceptable.
Lord Stern, a former chief economist of the World Bank and now I. G. Patel Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics, warned that British taxpayers would need to contribute about £3 billion a year by 2015 to help poor countries to cope with the inevitable impact of climate change."

Wait till there is a "green tax" on dog food! That is predominently meat isn't it?
If we got rid of all dogs and cats for that matter that would reduce our family carbon footprints. Alternatively they could evolve and become vegetarians.

im with you on this stuff nickbat, as for the methane my other half dont like it trapped under the quilt ;D, they will probably make it compulsary to have your canine teeth pulled out to stop us eating meat, all this stuff is getting beyond stupid if you ask me. >:(

in case you want to know why lord stern is spouting off this rubbish, could it be something to do with his carbon rating company??, would love to see his science degrees which makes him qualified to spout this rubbish from his "methane emitter" >:(

More likely due........ to financial.......... rather than environmental pressure. ;) ;)
In the past ..........fresh meat was a luxury ..........enjoyed mainly by the rich and affluent........poor people would eat meat infrequently. :'( :'( :y

rising oil prices will eventually mean meat is almost impossible to buy in the future - look at what happened to cuba when the russians took away their cheap oil - almost overnight meat consumption ended as farmers couldn't afford to produce beef, pork etc

In that case we're truly breaked because where will we get the diesel to plough / sow / spray / harvest the fields for cereal crops? I know - Why don't we all just stop eating completely? Give it a month or two and the imaginary "problem" of man made climate change would be solved for good. :-X

In that case we're truly breaked because where will we get the diesel to plough / sow / spray / harvest the fields for cereal crops? I know - Why don't we all just stop eating completely? Give it a month or two and the imaginary "problem" of man made climate change would be solved for good. :-X

crops will be more expensive, it'll be grow your own or pay tesco's £50 for a kilo of spuds ;)

Ok if methane is 23 times more powerful as a green house gas, then we can eat poultry instead, birds don't fart. Neither do fish.
My answer to the so called global warming is to cut the population, if you have any more than two kids you don't get any state hand outs for the third, fourth etc.
Also sex education for third world countries, when ever we see them starving & doing what ever, they've always have loads of kids in tow.
I expect i'll upset a few with my comments/opinions, but i don't care :)

I can't wait to assess the full weight of Adair Turner's proposals on behalf of the Green Fiscal Commission - now that we are seemingly to be considered not as citizens of this country, but as polluters who must be made to pay simply as a result of our collective temerity to exist. ::) ::)
