Title: Drive Smarter campaign
Post by: Nickbat on 11 March 2007, 11:09:33
The government has launched a new campaign to get us motorists to cut down on our "carbon footprints"

See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6438727.stm

I love the quote from Bob Millar of the Driving Standards Agency

"Top tips are look ahead, plan ahead further, avoid heavy braking, don't over-rev the engine, change to a higher gear as soon as you can, keep your tyres as the correct pressure, and look at the junk and clutter you may have in your boot, or on the roof"

The word "patronising" comes to mind. ::) ::)

Top tips are look ahead, plan ahead further

What, like "oh, look, a mile of clear road with no muppets in front, floor it!"

Quote
avoid heavy braking

Sounds expensive, that one!

Quote
don't over-rev the engine

6.5k is fine by me and not over-revving so that's OK ;)

Quote
change to a higher gear as soon as you can

Presumably to avoid "over-revving", see above.

Quote
and look at the junk and clutter you may have in your boot, or on the roof"

Damn right. Might be worth a few tenths 0-60.

Nothing about not running a 3.2 and a kit car with no cat so that's me in the clear!
