Post by: Phil6157 on 29 October 2009, 13:42:51
Hi can anyone tell me if i take the auto box out and replace with a manual will it work or do I need to change the bell housing, drive shaft etc.

Or the auto box drives ok but need to pull away with high revs in second.

Many Thanks

if you want to pull away in second, press the snowflake button next to the gear selector

Why second :question

Hi Phil

Don't quite understand this-sounds like you have winter function on-press the snowflake on left of gearstick to turn it off  :y

Its the other way around, it sounds like he WANTS to pull away in second, hence going for a manual which gives more control.

If you have an auto and want to pull away in second, press S button to let it rev higher, and snowflake, foot on brake, give it revs, when you want to go take your foot off the brake!

Depends how thick it is? When camping i got stuck in the mud, had to use second to pull away (i have a manual), once rolling back end was having some fun  8-)

I think there's a 'How to' in the maintenance guides, for swapping an auto for a manual .

tbh i now prefer auto to manual, my trooper was manual and was a night mare on long steep hills offroading, my mates rangie with its auto box made it a lot easier
