I need to bend maybe a 1" (25mm) rod. Dont quite need to bend it to a U shape (similar radius to an old style walking stick). Maybe between 45 and 90 Deg (measured to the 2 nearest touching sides (inside))
Looked on ebay at materials and am completely lost. Looked at Aluminium and Brass. I think Aluminium would fracture (dont think heat would make any difference) Brass, not sure with the diameter wheter it would bend/curve with/out heat. Radius of curve maybe 3 or 4 inches (6 to 8" Diameter)
Saw a load of plastics on line, machine ability is good but no idea if any of them would bend.
Aluminium, Brass, Steel, Delrin (Black and natural), Nylon 66 (Natural), PTFE, Black and grey PVC were some of the items I saw.
Any help/advice would be appreciated. :y

It depends on what you want to do with it.
If it requires strength the metal or a carbon based composite is best way to head if it is just decorative or will be under light stress then plastic

If you want to bend a metal pipe speak to any good plumber as they have the tools to do it properly. Shoulden't cost very much either :y

It will be solid rod not tube. I have access to some pipe bending tackle as my btother is a refrideration engineer, but the gear he has I dont think will go to an inch round, and certainly wouldnt cope will solid rod.

It's very difficult to advise with so little info.
The weight difference across various materials is enormous.
Had you thought of using tube and filling it after bending?

Interesting point. Decorative doesnt come into it.
One of the idea's I have will require it to have a degree of strength, and if using plastic then a bit of flaxability wouldnt be any problem.
Annother idea I have will require a lot of strngth.
Both idea's, any thing brittle would be a bad result.

Depending on the application sage advice from G here.
Copper tube from 22mm to 28 mm can be bent quite readily using plumbing tools.
Steel conduit of slighty smaller diameter can also be bent with the appropriate, readily available, tools.

He has specified ROD not pipe, so assuming not hollow, I guess rules out most 'home / diy / plumbing' devices in favour of bigger stuff...

I'd pop in to a local metalwork shop. Quite often they will have substantial bending rigs for shaping tube. Might be substantial enough to bend a rod.
I actually have a 2" steel tube I need to straighten. Fancy a swap? ;)
