I am hoping its going to frost tonight, its already sub 6 degrees and its a clear night. Sprayed a good amount on, interested to see if it works.
Bit dubious myself, assuming its some kind of sticky weak anti-freeze. Time will tell

Something wrong with just spraying de-icer on when you actually want it?
In fact, why spend money on de-icer when you can just pour a vessel of water (at low temp of course) over the screen with the heater on?
-
If it works, it will be well worth those extra few mins in bed :)
-
Or use a scraper :)
-
never had a problem before always used the scraper going to Uni or my old job, but getting up at 6am now, every minute counts ;D

Dunno what make u got tunnie......but i bought some Halfrauds night before deicer last year......it does work :y Just turn yer wipers on and they clear the icey slush away :y
Not sure if it has any affect on paintwork tho if you over spray it :-/

Excellent, i bought the same! :)

Why not just put a sheet over the screen the night before, just open up a couple of plastic sacks.

The smell alone tells you what is going to happen to your paintwork/windscreen seal over time.

The couple of bottles i bought last year cost me next to nothing...i think with TC and offer they were doing at the time.....i got them practically free :y
And driving off.....hoping the wipers will clear the bin liners might be a tad risky ;D
-
I won't use de-icer, night before or spray as it degrades the wipers and window seals. I won't use water either due to cracking effects by sudden expansion. I use the wife's credit card, well it stops her using it ;D ;D

Does plastic backing not bend?
Plastic roll, trap one end in passenger door (rear part), wrap round wind screen and trap other end in the back of the frivers door. Lock it and walk away.
next day, take it off, roll it up and put it in a bag in the passer foot well, put it back on at work if you think there is going to be ice.

Yep......just a boiling kettle........let it stand for a couple of minutes ........and then pour.
........and no...... I have never had a cracked windscreen.
We have a double garage..........but it is so full of crap.....that there is no room for the car.... :y :y
One day ...I will sort this out.......one day.... ::) ::) :y

I just use a...............car cover ::)

Sounds like too much work, plus the bin men might mistake it for rubbish ;D

You've been quite lucky then, because anybody who has not been unfortunate enough to have had a Nu Labia education (or who didn't bunk off) knows exactly what happens when you introduce two temperature extremes to any given object at the same time.

My theory is...... that the ice on the screen.......is enough to reduce the temperature of the hot water ......before it actually touches the screen itself.
It has worked so far........even on some British Leyland crap.......that I owned in the seventies.... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Bet that changes if you buy the W12, in fact you would probly insulate the garage and put underfloor heating in, the car would be so warm in winter you wouldnt take it out anyway. and end up using Dusty's car. ::)
-
In fact, tell Dusty to get herself back on here, I would like a word with her...... Please. ::) :y

Get up & get the scraper out Tunnie, it's character building ;) ;D ;D :y

If it works, it will be well worth those extra few mins in bed :)
You dont need to spend any less time in bed. Just start the car 10 mins earlier with heaters on.....

Not a fan of leaving a car idling to get warm, its not good for the engine, letting all that condensation build up. I prefer to start it and go straight away :)

Not going to get in it again, been a huge thread on it before.
General rule is idling, engine creates lots of condensation which builds up. Check the Omega Manual, it says drive off straight away ;)
It also gets all the fluids moving quicker, engine gets up to temp MUCH faster than just left idling.

I've found that the problem of not idling the car until the engine is warm is that if you jump in and drive away your breath immediately condenses on the screen meaning you have to stop about 50 yards from your home to clear it so you can see through the screen. Of course it is possible to sink down in the seat and drive by looking through the 1-inch clear gap at the bottom of the screen!! ;) ;D ;D

I have, every time I tried to drive of with a cold engine.
Maybe I am just a heavy breather. ;D ;D

well i just drive my car, not sure what you lot do in them ;D

I'm with the lukewarm water brigade. Not keen on scraping or spraying...or paying for the spray, no need.

I do that, but I also start up the car to let it warm up before I go off to work :y Does it hurt the engine? do I care? never had a car long enough for it to be noticed even after 5 years, and have been doing this, in all sorts of cars for 30 odd years with no known problems......... :y :y :y
-
I still believe its better for the engine to let it warm up before driving. This was always the advice until the tree hugging lobby started to infiltrate everything.Just my opinion ofcourse, wouldnt state it as a fact. ;)
-
Good name for a Tim Burton film Tunnie ::)

ive done that for the past 20 years now, cold water slowly on the windows and a wiper to get the water away. never caused a problem, not a crack :y

at the end of the day, each person has their own way of doing things. If we all did everything the same, this would be a boring planet ;D

It was frosty over night here. One of the lads got a phone call from his Mrs to say that they now needed a new rear screen for their Peugeot 106
.... she'd poured warm water on it!!!! :o ;D ;D ;D ;D

My objection to using the water approach is that it all ends up on the ground where it re-freezes, thus increasing the likelihood that you will slip over and break your neck the following day when you have to defrost.
At the end of a really hard winter, you could have a small glacier on your drive... :)
-
I like to use hot water bottles on the dashboard, then when I drive off - they go onto my lap to keep my hands etc. nice and warm while the heater is warming up. Alternatively when camping I tend to put the fan heater in the vehicle for 10 mins- also warms the steering wheel up!

When said water refreezes on the drive, and Mother Tunnie goes A over T, I suspect Tunnie may get spanked botty ;)

Dunno about you, but I've always been taught (although it's common sense anyway) that warming things up slowly only leads to increased life expectancy.
