An ex-work colleague....is thinking of selling his second hand VW Phaeton. ::)
It is a 6 litre W12....(I thought that they were V12.....shows how little I know.)on a 2005 ...55 plate.
It has covered about 80,000 miles....and he is looking at about £9000-£10,000.
It reminds me of the Omega ......in some ways.....A premium product with a budget badge. ::) ::).....which could explain the horrendous depreciation....about £70,000 when new.
It is a large beast .......much bigger than a Omega.....but it would suit the Optimist family needs .........with the exception of fuel and spare part costs. :'( :'( :'( :'(
Your opinions please...... :y :y :y :y
-
You're too tight to run it, you just want it for posing value.
Come on admit, you know I'm right. ::) ;D ;D :y
-
Sounds like a fabulous car, but would i want to run one using my own money.....
....errrr.....no thanks !!!!

Very astute Skruntie...... ;D ;D ;D
But you get a lot of car for the money.
Insurance is not a problem.......due to my advanced age... :) :) :) ;)

Group 20 Insurance
6 to 18 mpg
444 bhp
400 road tax
wouldnt like to price the tyres or exhaust.
Impressive numbers.

Its basically a Bentley with a VW badge, so its going to have Bently running costs.
I too was tempted by them, until i found out, if 1 shock fails, all 4 need to be replaced at a cost of 3k :o

This could become expensive....
the Diesel.... and smaller pertrol versions .......cost less to buy new......but are worth more on the second hand market........
Probably due to the heavy running costs of the bigger engine... :-/ :-/ :-/

Can't remember who said it, someone with experiance of them. Something due to the type of shock setup or something :-/
Also the W12 engine is so huge, most work means the engine has to come out :'(
Think it would be cheaper in the long run to get the 3.2 V6 or TDi

Agreed.......but as said......they seem to cost more on the used market......pity really ....as it is a lovely car that appears to be made from Granite...(almost 2400KG)......fat bastard that it is..... :y :y
-
yeah it makes the Omega look small ;D
-
Anyone who paid £70,000....for a VW. ::)........only 4 or 5 years ago.........that is now only worth £10,000......or even less......must be crazy....(or Forrest Gump) ;D ;D ;D
-
I do like them, i remember when they did the test on top gear, something about a 50p piece on the bonnet not moving at 100mph on the rollers?
Also, i do like the W12 engine, something about 2 V6's mmmmm :y

You might as well buy a 350 (or bigger) Yank.
Same fuel cost of course, but at least spare parts are a case of "one fits all", insurance is dirt cheap, generating extra horses is dirt cheap, and ANYBODY (so inclined) can work on them with bugger all tools.

agreed.. part prices not logical for that car.. and DIY also not easy..

A car like that would be great for the first few months. But, once the novelty value wore off, you would probably sell it for half what you paid, if you could get it.
-
Hang the expence "give the cat a kipper"! :)
-
Aah the allure of the large expensive vehicle that's now within reach thanks to depreciation.
I would indeed be tempted but then the need to consider maintenance would soon dissipate that desire. A shame.
-
You could get a slightly older Bentley for that sort of money......and that does not have an inferior badge on it
