I'm going nuclear.

Not a bad idea. That'll reduce your carbon footprint. ;D

Just fit a "Mr. Fusion" to the Omega.  :y

Seriously, if you need any suggestions for this "sand message" I'm sure we can come up with something. ;)

From my daughter's primary school newsletter today:

"There has recently been a great deal on the news about the problems of Climate Change. On 7 December, world leaders will meet in Copenhagen to make a global agreement to cut carbon emissions. Inspired by ideas from ActionAid, [the name] school council will be making messages from sand to send to Ed Miliband (the government minister who will be representing the UK). The sand will represent the droughts that are turning the land to dust in East Africa. If you would like to be involved please make sand messages at home to bring to school on 16 November."

"Sign up to the 10:10 challenege -www.10910uk.org - to reduce your energy use at home."

These are kids aged 4-11!

Thanks, Alf, but I have deleted the original post as I have decided not to discuss the issue on here.

I'm very angry, but I don't think I can adequately explain my views on here without getting into a slanging match with AGW believers.  :(

I have to say that I agree, this is a programming of small shildren rather than an approach to make them aware of the background of the subject when they are older so they can make thier own decision.

There will be some lefty tree hugging smart smart car driving teacher involved somewhere.

However, think what you could write!

The crazy thing is the environmental damage which will be done in sending such a weighty package of sand covered pictures  ;D

Thank you for your agreement, Mark. :y

I have sent a letter to the head in which I posed the question "How can it be ethical to encourage children to support a government minister to sign a document the children cannot even read, yet alone understand?"

I also pointed out that Section 407 of the 1996 Education Act prohibits bringing political issues to the attention of pupils unless they are offered a balanced
presentation of opposing views.

I'm not holding my breath, but I am satisfied that I have spoken out on this issue.

I believe it is good thing that children are given information about possible global warming.......although I'am very much against this becoming so overpowering.......that it turns into propaganda/indoctrination.....
This message would be too much for a four year old child to understand..........but older children 8-11....should be starting to have a rudimentary understanding .....of climate change.... :y :y :y.

Better still, they should be presented with the facts, in order to form their own opinion, not presented with a view that leads them to believe it is fact!  That is not understanding, that is programming ............... and is wrong! (whatever your views on climate)

Well funny i say that because i think there have been quite a few and i dont remember dino driving round on a petrol drinking c02 emmiting chariot. But i suppose we will just have to pump Billions of pounds into wind farms just to see.

No, That would be the FACTS, no opinion either way!  that is what is required for informed opinion rather than brainwashing.  [insert your favourite smiley here]

There are no arguments over global warming, the question is the driver behind it be it CO2 emissions or natural global cycles.

I personaly have examined the available facts and infer that CO2 emissions are not contributing to global warming in any significant way (as backed up by the latest scientific studies), others infer a different cause.

But, its the facts that should be presented, not some 'do this because this is the cause' approach.

I have to say that I am worred about our over consumption and throw away apporoach....but thats a different matter all together.

Trouble is that the politicians are using global warming as the new window tax!

Exactly.
I'm from the David Bellamy School of Environmentalism

“And my opinion is that there is absolutely no proof that carbon dioxide is anything to do with any impending catastrophe. The ¬science has, quite simply, gone awry. In fact, it’s not even science any more, it’s anti-science…”

“…The thing that annoys me most is that there are genuine environmental problems that desperately require attention. I’m still an environmentalist, I’m still a Green and I’m still campaigning to stop the destruction of the biodiversity of the world. But money will be wasted on trying to solve this global warming “problem” that I would much rather was used for looking after the people of the world.”

Professor David Bellamy, 5 November 2008
