Liz is wanting to get herself a laptop & i was wondering what would folk recommend for the £300.00-£350.00 mark?
Would like Duo Core & 2GB Ram min spec :)
The best/cheapest place to get one would also be a bonus :y
Thanks :y

Remember, chipset is the most important part, not cpu and ram ;)
At that price point, Intel 965 is minimum chipset you should go for. At that price, its likely you'll have integrated vga (x3100 in 965).

not being technically minded in the slightest,id like to know what i should go for as well ( sorry to but in on your thread :o)
i want to play football manager 2010 and use my vodafone dongle surfing net with it on a nightshift so any ideas what would be best? obviously the cheaper the better :y

Any of the 'big 3' lappy makers - Dell, Tosh, HP/Compaq - should be fine nowadays.

I've had ACER twice before and found them to be OK. Mind you my lastest HP bought from Currys over Christmas; the microphone packed up on it. So I guess they are all prone to faults.

Thank you all. She was looking at an Acer, glad i asked :)
I have a Toshiba & i'm pleased with mine so i guess we may be getting Liz one too :y
Thank you all again :) :)

agree with Omegadoha too, had Acers before, never had a problem with them. About 5/6 years ago they really were a bit poor, but in recent times they really stepped up. Better build, loads of kit for the money.
I was a techy at a school, and the laptop for teachers scheme used acers, we had 170 of them come in. In the year or so i was there, none failed, or had any hardware issues. Thats going some for teachers as they were abused quite badly :y

I have had a couple of Acers as well. no real problem with them except the connection for the power supply is really poor. Have had to do a few repairs in the past. But the laptop itself is fine, one of the best screens I have seen.

Just for the info, in our biggest IT hardware store they checked the laptops for malfunctions in warranty period.
Acer was twice better than HP and had two times lower warranty claims .
And as for Toshiba ones, cheap Toshiba models have proven extremly unreliable. More expensive ones are probably the best on the market, but avoid cheap ones
