I believe due to the combination of UV and the dust wiper blades do not last long here usually less than a year
So my question is what blades do you guys and girls think are best ie cheapos from auto factor / well known brand such as bosch / main stealers or these new multi blade-flat blade
Thoughts please :y

GM, cheap, wipe well, silent.

If It dont rain that much......... ::)
-
I have only tried the standard type. But have used dealers, bosch and halfrauds, and local shop type and I am lucky to get 18 months out of a set. :o
-
i have just fitted the new flat type wipers to mine and they are ace, had em on my trooper and were on there for 3 years and never missed a spot on the screen, got mine of ebay and they were £7.99 for the pair free p&p

how much ae genuine for a pair
-
Ditto;replaced the old ones on the estima with some of the new style flat blades with jet wash off ebay and I do find them better than the traditional style ones I had before. In the past Ive used trad style blades from Bosch and halfords and cant say there was much difference between the two apart from the price!

I use on average 2 litres of screen wash a week
and when it does rain boy does it rain

I have aeroblades at the moment but, the genuine ones work better

Must be me being ignorant rob, I always thought of Gibraltar as being quite sunny and I know I use about as much screenwash when its dry but theres lots of bugs about to hit the screen as I do when its miserable and all the crap off the road hits it instead, but normally I never go through that much a week so a bit surprised thats all.

I'm wondering just where in Gib you get to drive your Miggy ... last time I drove there the only time I got above about 20 mph was crossing the runway !!! Quicker to walk everywhere !!! Unless you visit the mainland often I suppose .. :)

You are correct Entwood and i think you were lucky to get to 20mph lol
but yes alot of cross border trips most of the wifes friends live along the coast so do notch up the miles
Plus we offfer our customers airport transfers so usually run back and forth to Malaga about twice a week
For rock hopping i use my moped the only way to get round Gibraltar 8-)

Aeroblades for me everytime :y Were great on the Mig, great on the van and getting another set for the Saab :y
-
I change mine at least yearly whatever, often more often.

;D dust is a mare in spain. Never understood why the first stroke is on a dry screen before the wash kicks in, common on most cars, probably due to wiper blade sales?
I've been on about this before. Only reason i fitted blades over traditional spring wipers is the pressure points of the springs. With time they scratch, if left long enough, leaving 6 ,or so, wear lines on the screen. Quick replacement avoids this fair enough. But standard dont last as long as the bosch aero blade twins i'm lead to beleive. I suspect stock gm may be a bit quieter, just, but for me, no springs, no thanks. Not in the long run anyway.

I need to do something with my wipers / window.
Don’t think the wipers are the problem though. Its as if the glass has a thin film of oil all over it almost?
So when the wipers 'wipe' it just becomes a horrid smear which I can hardly see through :-X
Tried a couple of glass cleaners with little joy. Has proper screen was in the washer bottle too which cant shift it? :( :(
-
vinegar? That green Mr muscle glass cleaner? Several applications and scrub the glass clean with kitchen towel until it no longer dirtys the towel, use something guaranteed to be grease free? Wipe the blades too.....maybe?
My old cdx screen, when clean didnt need wipers at speed. The drops just balled up and ran up the screen. New screen on this car has some sort of coating meaning the water spreads out rather than running off. No smears, when clean.
Also car washes can give a funny film. The one near Chesham gave a film that made it look foggy for a second after each pass of the blades. It went after half a bottle of screen wash though.
I find working on the engine or removing the scuttle, i often lean on the screen as its easier on my back. Then wonder why the screen is smeared next time i drive it.

Change yearly, normally March after the frosts.
about £10 iirc for genuine for a pair on trade
found they perform well.
-
I just went for the GM ones, not that much on the market over here. And not that it rains very much either. But the rubber will perish within a couple of years though.

Once I had a nightmare, windsreen was covered in sandy dust and it was humid. Went to use the windscreen washer but there was no water in there. The wipers ran dry and with the humidity spread and stuck the sand to the windscreen. Couldn't see a damn thing.

Bosch Aeroblades every time. Been using current one's for a couple of years and still clearing the screen superbly and silent operation. :y
-
Whatever the motor factors have.
I replace mine once a year before the MOT. I use them maybe twice a year. After months of baking sun and no rain they deteriorate somewhat!

Valeo whenever I can get them.
Soft and silent (but get damaged easily by frost)
Just cleaned my screen inside and out (for the first time with this car)
Ended up using white spirit to soften the tarry film and then flash floor cleaner to remove it. Driving into the sun with a fine drizzle falling is almost a pleasure now.
I had hoped that the comically named 'rain sensitive wipers' would become more sensitive with a clean screen but it hasn't happened.
At least with a clean screen and new wipers I can see with a wet screen (when the wipers aren't wiping) and the noise is reduced when they keep wiping a dry screen >:(

I tried the Mr Muscle last week with kitchen roll. Gave it a good 3-4 cleans. Yes its better, but still not great by a long shot :(
Dont use car washes, and I aint been leaning on the windscreen as far as I know. :-/
Did think about trying rainex, any thoughts?

Rainex makes your windows fog up it has in all my cars i've used it on so don't use it anymore :y.

Clean your windscreen with isopropyl alcohol (ipa)
Works a treat to remove the waxy film from car/jetwashes. Also , apply to a rag & wipe new wipers before fitting. The rubber has a film of mould release agent on it from the manufacturing process. If you don't clean it off , it ends up on your windscreen. :y
-
GM always for me :y :y
-
GM are what is on the Saab at the mo, they're good and only put on in May but, I like Aeroblades :y
-
I've got the same smearing problem on mine, and using cheapo factor blades which at best can only be described as 'barely adequate'. I have tried the usual 'quick fixes' including vinegar, foaming glass cleaner, neat meths (drink it then blow on the glass LOL) to no avail and I found 'RainX' nowhere near as good as claimed. I am going to get some Aeroblades asap and I will give Bourne's tip of Isopropylene a try before fitting them :y
-
i had the valeo blades prior to bosch aeroblade twin.
Twin far better ime.
