Technically termed a race data logger??
-
Its a race technology performance logger....as designed by Martin Hill and his mate (who I know and used to work with his dad!)
Accelerometer based and some the latest ones use GPS to.

Correct.......no GPS ...just accelerometers.
Accurate to within 2%.....straight out of the box .....or well within 1%.....when calibrated.

It has a whole raft of functions...0-60mph.....in gear times.......50-70 mph in top gear ...etc ..etc
.......standing quarter mile time ......with terminal speed.
Roll out.....for drag racing....plus 60ft.....times......and one eighth mile times.
Very accurate braking distances .....and times.
It can also work out how much power a car is making.....provided you put in weight ...and drag.

Picked up one of those dirt cheap on Ebay a while ago.
I think I found some documentation for it trawling the web - if you're in need of any?
Pretty self-explanatory bit of kit though.
