I had placed a listing for my fathers car last friday.
220510075166
On Monday, I made the amendment at the bottom, stating that the car was reserved as I had a buyer for the car, (not via ebay), if the buyer turned turned out to be bogus, I was going to put another post stating what had happened.
The sale concluded at 16:39 today, only one person out of 7 watchers bid on the car (at 16:36 today), and subsequently this chap, acting politely, is demanding I sell him the car.
The awkward thing is that I ended the listing at around 10am this morning, around the time I called my insurance company, asking for the car to be removed from my policy.
For some reason the update did not go through, and the listing remained unchanged.
I have been absolutely transparent with the buyer, and although I can appeciate his situation, I wholly dont trust him.
As far as I am aware, I made it totally clear that the car was reserved, no other person bid, it seems he did not read the ad fully.
Where do I stand?
This is something that I really cant deal with just now.
Please help.

what is the buyers location - england, wales etc?
-
you should have got an e-mail from eBay saying the auction had been ended early?
-
Long time since I sold on e-bay. Is it permissable to end the auction within 24 hours of its end date? Something in the back of my mind to say that it must be ended longer than that?
As I read it, you stated that you reserve the right to end the auction early. Whether that end notification is made visible via the site or not is a moot point but you did also say that the car is reserved. Whether thats because of a financial factor or because you want to sell to a particular person or not is unclear, however. Your choice... :y
I think that, ultimately, all you risk is your feedback and access to e-bay under that account, however.... :)

Tunnie, I did not get a response from ebay, I wrongly assumed everything was ok.
Broocie, the reason for the reservation was that the buyer was an elderly gentleman who was wanting a mechanic friend to look over the car for him, then after he said he wanted the car, I waited for him to return with the money. The posting would be amended if the sale failed.
Basically, I was trying to keep everyone happy, and myself covered at the same time.
edit.... I believe he is from surrey, but I cannot find where I saw that info earlier. His # is 0113 288 ?

You cannot end or amend an auction within 12 hours of it's end-time.
-
0113 is Leeds, as far as I can find.
Personally, I would be contacting the buyer and simply advising him that the car was sold elsewhere.
Whats his feedback? Bought other cars/items as a last minute thing?

Fair enough, but having made the posting on monday stating the car was reserved, have I not covered myself then?

You should be ok, as long as it said something like 'i reserve the right to end the auction early, bla bla'
Just contact the buyer and inform them it sold within hours of the auction ending.

Exactly that... You've already stated it was reserved :y :y
As Broocie said... At the end of the day it's only feedback :y :y

He has 5 feedback, all for Toyota/Lexus cars, all outbid.
Last feedback was on 01Dec08.

My tuppenceworth.
Its a dealer, using one of many similar named accounts to buy up cars where and when possible.
Loose no sleep over it Fra. Send an e-mail or e-bay contact giving to them a very polite but firm tinkers farewell as the car is sold elsewhere........ :)

I'll try not to B, but sleep isnt great atm.
He doesn't seem to be a regular active user of ebay,
I know its only feedback, but 100% for almost 100 items, I was rather proud of that.
I did state that the car was advertised elsewhere, reserve the right to end early, car was reserved etc
Just dont want myself to be left open to fines or legal action or whatever.
Normally I have a good understanding of ebay, but my head is still messed up.
Still not coping too well tbh.

You've covered yourself... Just tell him politely it's sold, as the listing stated it was reserved :y :y

if he complains to e-bay you will get your oppurtunity to put in your comments so maybe you will not get bad feedback - in any case what is more important - having 100% feedback or selling the car at a proper price

have i maybe read this wong? but it seems to me big-fra that you had a bid of 4.5k? seems a fair amount for the car.
