OK that got you looking.
I watched a very interesting programme a while ago recorded earlier in the year and was sitting unwatched on the HDR.
About mans journey from Africa.
We are great apes - most great apes are dark skinned (people in Africa, Gorillas, Chimps) Europeans are not - which is the odd one out?
Now here goes, why are a lot of us light skinned?
Simply there is not enough sun to produce enough vitamin D with the default dark skin, so that trait became more common quite a few thousand years ago.
There you go - all you racists - that is all you can claim as superior ;D ;D ;D ;D
BTW notice how African people are normally lithe and graceful - also long limbed, makes you fast, but loses heat in a cold climate - hence European descent sprinters are stuffed.
As to best hunters - no doubt at all - any fit human, all can run in very hot weather at similar body temperatures, unlike big cats ect we sweat and can continue for miles.
You can learn lots in documentries

Excuse my ignorance on this, but dark colours absorb the suns rays better than light colours. So if there is not enough sun in northern Europe to prodeuce vitamin D, should northern Europeans be dark skinned and Africans be light skinned ?
Sorry if I am missing something here.

Then melanin is near the top the vitamin producing bit is deeper in the skin, the melanin is to protect the skin from the suns rays

Blimey, had to google that. So it would seem that dark skinned people have more melanin that light skinned people.
So the question is have northern Europeans lost melanin over the years or have dark skinned people developed more melanin over the years.
I ask as there is a theory that human life evolved in the Middle East at approx the same time as it evolved in Africa.

We started in the Rift valley and European people lost their colouring during I think she said the last iceage
