You could've bought my car for that amount! I might have even considered a bit of change.  ::)  ;D and it won't need an exhaust ..... it's stainless.

£100 a month is cheap (as you now have 1 years motoring ahead)

Aye, insurance, MOT, tax - thats all you need for year, and all for £100 per month.

Mine is probably cheaper to run (fuel and tyres aside), but then I'm an old git with £270 ish FC insurance...

That's assuming nothing else breaks . . .

I just spent 220 for shocks and wishbones, another 90 for front brakes next week and 40 for alignment brings me up to 350.  Then I still need to do the EM gaskets and a few other bits.  Taking into account the last major repair session, I am running at about 100/mo not including insurance.

I have had a look at the estate today and I will need cambelt, tensioners, water pump, aux belt, wishbones and drop links, ive just bought front discs, pads and sensors, one of the rear shocks is a bit moist (god I love that word) oil and a couple of filter changes, breathers cleaning and a 4 wheel alignment. Its a good job I bought a big tub of copper grease it looks like im going to have to sell my backside to pay for all this :o

Yes but......shocks can be considered an expense spread over 100K miles....cambelt etc spread over 40K miles.....etc

There not items you have to do every year!

Hopefully won't be so much to do after the first year of ownership.  I also hope that it is worth 1,500 at the end, because I was hoping to only spend 1,000/yr except for insurance and fuel - but including depreciation.  That's with me doing almost all the work, but it's going to be well over that in the first year even leaving quite a few things broken.

Thats teh risk of buying high mileage motors.....the secret now is to run it for 2-3 years at which point it becomes cheap motoring.

Yeah, I've owned worse.  That is my plan, I'm just a bit annoyed that I ended up not only having to do all 4 shocks at the same time but also the front brakes.  100 quid a month is better than spending 350 when you were hoping to do 200 now and the rest in 2 months.

Cambelt £185
Waterpump £80
Wishbones £100
Track Rod Ends £100
Tracking £15
MAF £45

£525 in 4 months and mine's only done 44,000 and isn't yet 4 years old. :(

Never mind - MOT next week adds another £40 but it's all I've paid for in 4 years so at £125 per year, or a tenner a month for maintenance it's not so bad.  :y

Just over £600 for a MOT might seem high to some people, but I look at it this way, you will always need insurance and road tax on any other car, so £600 odd for an MOT £50 amonth, if your car is paid for could you buy a better car for £50 amonth. My last car was on HP at just over £200 amonth for 4 years, never again £2400 a year plus repair bills, paid for the omega outright, only got £1200 trade with the old car, have had the omega nearly 2 years have only had a oxy sensor go wrong. The car is 5 years old this month, so maybe things might start to go.

my cost for the last year.

8 tyres £490
10 filter changes £150
Mot - £250
General servicing £250
Insurance £350

Total £1490

not bad considering i have just clocked up 27,000 miles in the last 12 months

Oh yeah and petrol costs of close to £3500!!!
