Post by: neilr on 25 November 2009, 15:54:34
hi all Im feeling low at moment had to have my golden lab put to sleep yesterday. I didnt realise how attached i had got towards her. She was loving friendly and soft towards everyone especially kids.I know in my heart it was the right thing to do as she will not suffer. Her 10.5 years were good as she was well cared for. She will be greatly missed. :'( :'( :'(

Deeply sad upon reading of your brave decision to have your dear-one put to sleep, Neil.....I`m sure you gave her a wonderful life and at the end, did the right thing for the kindest of reasons.
We will say a prayer for her as she passes over the rainbow bridge to play endlessly in the sunshine beyond. :-*

When God had made the earth and sky,
The flowers and the trees.
He then made all the animals,
The fish, the birds and bees.
And when at last He'd finished,
Not one was quite the same.
He said, "I'll walk this world of mine,
And give each one a name."
And so He traveled far and wide
And everywhere He went,
A little creature followed Him
Until its strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earth
And in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, "Dear Lord,
There's not one left for me."
Kindly the Father said to him,
"I've left you to the end.
I've turned my own name back to front
And called you dog, my friend."

I'm really sorry for your loss mate :(, we lost our little Poppy just before I joined OOF in April, and although she will never be forgotten, we now have two more to join her in our hearts & keep us smiling ;)

Sorry about the news about your loss, a dog can be a very good companion and when lost it's like losing a family member, well, they are family really. At least there was no suffering  :y  :( :( :(

She's probably running and rolling around in the rainbow garden with our Meg (black alsatian) and others. My condolences but be proud of the happy life you gave her.

Labs are great friends - we had chocolate and black -they got to 13 and 14 years respectively before they moved on. Depression over the house for days afterwards.

Know how you feel.

thanks to everyone who has replied with your kind words. I know in my heart she is at peace and like said earlier I may yet meet her again in another life. Home is weird as i keep expecting her to come and sit beside my chair and nudge my arm for a cuddle as always. She looked lovely with her brown eyes brown nose and beutiful yellow coat.

Our Old English Sheepdog was 13 and a half when she passed away. I took comfort in the fact that we gave her the best life she could have had; we thought the world of her and spoilt her rotten.
