This is from the meets section but bear with me please.
I found the relative issue of Retro Ford Mag this weekend & duly paid my £4.20. Being fully aware the onus would be on the Capri with the 3.0 Mig engine & manual box i did'nt expect too much but given Markey Mark & i took days off work, polising, tarting up etc. Stood for ages at the photographers request, moved our cars here there, everywhere, the outcome was one pic of our cars in the background that you can hardly see, & at the end of the written text there's a half hearted thankyou to the Omega owners "club"? Not even any appriciation in writing.
At the time i thought this would be good for the forum. Big mistake on my part. I had rows with two admins resulting in me spitting my dummy, leaving, losing my hard earned posts & for what?...Sweet Fanny Adams.
Thanks alot Retro Ford Mag! >:(

I would go into the newsagents and have a look but oh! the shame! Might have to slip it inside a copy of Razzle to save face. ;)
Only kidding.. IMHO it's normally the case that once journalistic licence has been applied to a story it ends up a load of bollards.
Sorry your time has gone to waste, Guy but well done for putting the effort in, mate. :y

Did you not read my post properly before leaving this ill thought comment in the vain hope of looking clever?
-
yes you were aware that the onus would be on the ford and you didnt expect much... and thats what you got,not even a free copy of the mag!
but im sure you had a good day that was diffrent and you have a mag feature on your car[thats got to be worth a couple of hundred quid when you come to sell]

£2 if you see the photo!!! For once it's not the Mig i'm upset about it's the fact i installed "protective mode" & argued with admins, allowed myself to get wound up to the point of leaving (silly mistake ) I did'nt expect much but this was taking the rise! Seems my loyalties where misguided,, thought i was doing the right thing at the time.
We live and learn!!!! ::)

Sorry to hear you lost your post's because of this but your just going to have to put it down to one of those things mate. Good to have you back anyway. :y
Must admit if i had the change to get my car in a mag even a ford one as back ground pics i would jump at the chance and be equally gutted if i thought it was crap. ;D ;D

But more importantly, what did they think to the MIG engined Crapi?

Hi Mark. The Crapi...oh god i said it was'nt crap at all actually, it was a nice motor with alot of time, money & care invested in it & even if your'e not a classic Ford fan (like me) you can't fault the owner for his choice of engine.
However i should learn to stop crusading sometimes & accept my loyalties were misplaced in this case. We live & learn!! ::)

Am I missing something?, what is the advantage of putting a Mig engine in a Capri, it is my understanding that the power from a ford V6 is similar, and the Ford engine is far less maintenance than a Mig V6

The Ford V6 is an asthmatic boat-anchor of an engine in comparison to an X30XE. :y

also all recent Ford V6 are designed for FWD, with Vx V6 already setup for RWD?
Not sure how much of a bonus that would be :-/

Not really, you've got the Scorpio Cosworth which was a V6 out around the same time as the Omega which I believe is RWD

Back in the mists of time.......a friend of mine owned a Capri 3000E....1972 on a K plate......bright yellow with a black vinyl roof. :y :y
For the time it looked fantatic....and was a real crumpet catcher. :D
I remember it being very quick.....only 138BHP.....and a 4 speed box........but I believe it weighed barely one tonne..... .......and had loads of low down torque.
but.....as kevin has said ....pretty breathless after about 4500 RPM.
addition....I have just come across an issue of "Motor" magazine dated 1974....the stats for the 3 litre Capri are....
Top speed .......119.5 MPH
0-60MPH.......8.6 secs
Petrol.............19.4MPG ..overall
Cost...........£2243....Ah those were the days... :y

The Essex V6 that went into the Capri is anything but recent though, and FWD was just a dream when it was penned.

Just look at the thing and you see that it belongs on the end of a chain a few fathoms down. ;)
There is an urban legend that it was originally designed as a block suitable for diseasel or petrol so they made the structure extra lardy and then dropped the plans for the tractor variant.
Add to that the nasty fibre cam drive gear that disintegrates... I think the X30XE was a wise choice before you consider the extra 70BHP.

Ford were caught red handed by some car magazine back in the day, telling porkies about the output of the Essex v6.They tested several of them and none of them were more than 115bhp.
Crap engine imo.
-
The Essex/Cologne V6's never pushed the power of the X30XE but with the right exhaust they did sound better! :D
