I think Dan the Man might be joining UKIP shortly. ;) :y

10. Oh, and we’d be a democracy again
That final point from the Telegraph article is perhaps the most alluring of all :y :y

Some observations!
1. Whether it is right or not to be in the EU (and there are times when I have my doubts!) Britain will not leave it in our lifetimes. People forget we have been busy signing away our rights ever since we joined. That was the time for debate. Now I am afraid the best we can do is get the best deal possible.
2. Blog Point 2 means we are contributing to bringing the newer states in the EU up to Britains level of wealth like we did for the Spanish. They still regard Britain as a very rich country!
3. Point 4 omits that without the CAP the livelihood of millions of EU people would collapse and the countryside would in many places revert to nature. Non farmers wouldn't suffer however as they would be free to buy their food from further afield at admittedly lower prices.
4 Point 5 Would they want to? Britain successively gave away its fishing industry by NOT supporting it in a fit of "free market economy". Where would all the modern trawlers come from? You only have to look at the Spanish fleet to see where we went wrong. We even allowed or encouraged our fishermen to sell their licences to the highest bidders ( often Spaniards).
5. Point 8 We need to export more! Wait a minute we don't make anything except financial smoke and mirrors and specialist stuff like deep sea submarines. We should have taken a leaf out of the German book. Now they do export a LOT!
6. Point 9 Don't think so. is there a precedent? Who would we deal with? The former commonwealth (that we ditched so unceremoniously) The USA (with their buy American policy despite our special relationship)?
7. Democracy. Now that would be a good thing to be applauded. We could start by bringing Scotland back into the fold and behaving like Great Britain and not a fragmented country.
One good thing that might come out of Daniel's efforts is to raise the EU internal debates in the concsiousness of the British public. Now that would be a good thing for there is much waste and much to be improved.
