Title: Recommended Garage's Forum
Post by: Jimbob on 05 December 2006, 10:20:35
How about a forum, spilt into North West, North East etc etc etc

We can then post in 'local' garages we have had good / bad experiences with.
Where can do tech2 work reasonably etc.

Sounds like a good idea :)

Sounds a reasonable suggestion :y

I like the idea but I'm not sure it would work.
Some may have a good experience at a garage whilst others may not & is it a good idea to "shame" a garage on a public forum?

Sounds good but have to agree with BoBo

I suppose it would be possible with a disclaimer about all comments being the opinion of the author and not of the site admins but expect it would be a legal minefield.
Shame really cause it could have been helpful.

I'm entirely undecided on this one.

All fair comments.

What started it was I found that a place near me has tech2, so wanted somewhere to post :

Just been to MW Performance, in Saltney, Chester
Where they do tech2 stuff for £15
Very helpful, As he couldn't / didn't know how to resolve at the time, no charge but is 'looking into it and come back in a day or 2'

To avoid the problem of derisory comments for unhelpful garages maybe just garages that you would reccomend? You couldn't really be blamed for good publicity.

Great idea. How else are people to find a reliable garage in their area ?. Trial and error on omegas can cost a fortune as many members will testify. If a member knows a non rip off, knowlegeable mechanic and wants to recommend them, I for one would be willing to check them out. I agree slagging off should not be allowed (sadly) but this would mean, in the long run that only those with recommendations would prosper. And quite rightly so. I am sure a lot of members, like myself have had terrible experiences with mechanics who know little more than them, but do'nt mind emptying your back pocket. I think a recommendation section should at least be considered. How about it. All in favour say YEAH

Yeah, good idea provided (as said above) it's recommendations only and no slagging off :y

Good idea, I've already posted a couple of times on: wheel alignment, respray and alloy wheel repair, people could rate them perhaps?  You shouldn't be guaranteeing anything by recommending a place to go - it should still all be at your own risk, just as the maintenance guides are..

Good idea. :y

Local council, Fife, has a scheme oor should that be scream, with certain local garages registered with them that will abide with certain set rules.

Also i know that Car Mechanics, magazine, also do a similar thing with readers sending in their findings. Think it would certainly help for those of us used to travelling into the nether regions in search of a holiday and having a problem with their mega.  :y

Not entirely sure how this could be usefully implemented into a forum type site....

How about a sub forum, or an updatable sticky under maintenance guides - you could title it Services for your Omega, Reccomended by Members - or something not that long?!

Believe it or not, the base forum software does not support sub forums  >:(

Ah, bit of a stumbling block there!  I would agree that it probably shouldn't have a completely seperate forum, so that doesn't leave you a lot in the way of options..

Once we get rid of Maintenence Guides and FAQs etc, then adding a couple of new sections won't be so cluttered....
