Title: Steam train to the rescue
Post by: Nickbat on 26 December 2009, 00:59:03
Is there a bit of irony in this story? Coal vs. electric. Coal wins.  ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Wouldn't mind riding in one of those, wonder if the carriage interiors are fully restored.

finally, an interesting post by Nickbat  :D

If any operators want to modernise their services by using steam trains, I would be happy to give them a quote

That story leaves a lovely glow in my stomach!  And a humourous dig into the bargain.  I love it.

Last time I heard one of those stories was when the Torbay Express went diesel and a steam loco had to go out and retrieve it after it broke down.  I think the culprit was called Goliath and it would have been early 1960s.

Fantastic!

Lol, good old scalextric country.....they miss there 73's which used to have a nice heavy shoe on that broke the ice off.....that plus they used to run ice clearing trains to keep the 3rd rail de-iced.

Don't they still have deicing trains?

Not many!

They used to run empty locos around just to keep the third rail clear but, thats stopped.

Slug lines's trusty class 171's don't have any trouble in snow or water.....

In the floods earlier in the year, they went flying through at 60+ when the rails were fully submerged in water  :o
