Does anyone here at OOF ........have a high I.Q.
On a good day ......I can get mine to reach double figures. ;D ;D
Rumour has it .....that the mighty Ms Debs has a four figure I.Q......Zulu also.. ;) ;)
Is I.Q. a realistic indicator of intelligence....or is it too simplistic?.
Perhaps intelligence takes many different forms ....
Any ideas?. :y :y

IQ scores don't mean much in real life because the test only measures certain skills (and even then, very misleading results can be produced).

A lot of things are obvious in life when pointed out, but that doesn't mean the person who failed to spot it is lacking in grey matter......that's why the IQ test is flawed IMO.

My IQ has been "officially" measured twice in my life --- at 7 and around 36, both by Mensa in supervised tests. Can't recall the scores now that the alzheimers has set in, but both times I qualified for membership. However, I would say that the emphasis on IQ is flawed, as are the testing methods.
Yes, I, apparently, have a reasonable quotient, but was (and am) sadly lacking in "application" (basically a lazy.B ;D ), therefore the scores meant absolutely zilch as to my worth.
People who score far lower, but apply themselves to whatever their endeavours might be, have done far better in life.
"Intelligence", even if measured effectively, is a minute fraction of the picture.

My son, who has aspergers, attained a really high score when he sat an IQ test. But, as has been said, the way he looks at life would prevent him from any practical application of it. He thinks numbers are 'alive' and when numbers jacks is on the telly he sits and mouths the words with them.

I think you may have something here...
I was once told that the three main elements of intelligence are...... at number 3.Memory...2.Understanding..and right at the top 1.Application of understanding. :y :y

Our eldest (autistic) was tested when he turned 12, and he scored 127 which apparently puts him in the "very superior" intelligence class.
Yet he still can't work out what clothing is appropiate just before he walks out of the door (ie, he would go out today in a t-shirt and not realise he won't make it 2 minutes up the road).
By all accounts, it is not uncommon for those with mental health issues to reach higher scores than average.

That's Ben. Cant fasten a button or work out why he cant put an inside out coat on, but wipes the floor with me on 'The impossible quiz'

Our eldest is the same. He'll tell you anything you want to know about astronomy (and a handful of other subjects), yet has a complete s**t fit if you try to make him put on a pair of socks that match.
Another of his most noticeable quirks (aside from swearing) is the head "tic".
His head will twitch so violently that I can feel it happening when stopped at lights with him on the back of the bike, yet he will have no recollection whatsoever.

I think, if you look at the mental greats of the world, present and past, they are all marked by some degree of eccentricity.

21 out of 30, with some silly mistakes so should have been higher. I blame the people at home pestering me every 2 mins ;D ::)

Intelligence comes in many forms. I worked for a Jobbing Builder when i first left school. We lived near Oxford at the time. Some of his clients where Oxford University Lecturers, he got a phone call from one of them asking him if he could come over & put a plug on the new kettle he had just bought. The guy paid Chris an hours time plus call out fee which came to more than the kettle cost. He honestly didn't have clue how to wire up a plug, but was outstanding in his field of expertise.

You tend to find also a lacking in common sense. I had an occasion when a solicitor turned up to collect a large food order, only to find when I opened the boot of his Bentley to load up it was full of golf clubs ::)

I just did that Mensa test.
25 out of 30. :) :) :)
Couldn't do the anagrams, got the one about the potato wrong, miscounted the boxes (got fed up and guessed) and failed on the last pattern match, which I always fail.
On the 11+, I think I scored 129, and a few years ago they did one on the TV and I got 141, which annoyed my wife, as I was allowed to add 5 at the end for being ancient, and she wasn't, 'cos she's not quite as ancient as me. :) :) :)
It's a load of rubbish! :) :) :)

Yeah, but there's quite a lot of them out there that have a low IQ and no common sense.
At least you have a small chance of persuading the high IQ people around to your point of view (i.e. the correct way).

I was a failure at school. :'(

The next number she liked was 1600, with the alternative being 1700.....neither of which come to 9 in any kind of mathematical equation ;)
