I do like the look of those BMW suits, they are well known as the 'idiot suits' on the GS forum. Not cheap though, jackets alone are £600  :o :o

I got a Dainese D-Dry jacket, very happy with it, been out when it was -5 at 80mph in it, all snug and warm and dry. Its got armour too, got some random brand trousers too, again D-Dry material, they are warm too.

My bike gear is pretty old and abused.  First place they let water in when its tipping down makes it look like I've pissed me pants. Again.

I don't bother replacing, as I'm a fair weather boy 95% of the time.

I think you could treat yourself to some new trousers, those current ones don't do you any favors  ;D

Jacket looks fine though, not sure if i should replace my helmet, to reduce noise. Need to test ride with the new screen yet  :)

Could do with the velcro replacing on the trousers, stop 'em falling down!

Question?

Why is it that someone who is tall and skinny or someone who is short and fat is such a verbal focus point to others.  To the point where they get fairly abusive in the way they refer to them...........    Are they jealous?

I got the warrenty on mine too, they still give full 12 months even on a 4 year old 30k mile bike, and it covers everything bar consumables. Costs £300 a year to renew, i shall be taking that out without a doubt. Heard too many stories of final drive failures.

Popping to the BMW dealer in the new year, might see what deals they have on the BMW gear  ;D

BMW bike warranty is second to none and covers Worldwide with hotels, flying parts to you etc.  Well worth it.  My R1200RT was new so came with it, like the 1150 before, the 1100 was used and bought from main dealer so had it too.
Never used warranty apart from on new 1200, though  :y

I was very disappointed with component quality on 1200RT after the 1150RT-lots of issues, component failure, water ingress, electric faults, gearbox catastrophic etc etc etc

Now have baby and can't imagine biking-happy in car  ;D

same with the 1200 GS, but so far (touch wood) mine has been fine, no issues, it feels really well built compared to the Yam MT-03 i had before. GS suits my frame and height much more, i also wanted practicality, i wanted to be able to store my helmet and jacket when i get somewhere.

I love it though, its rapid enough for me, very, very comfy and economical  :)

GS is a world apart from any Yam-you can do 6k between services and jet wash it with the shaft drive, etc.

My RTs did 25k miles pa, all weathers and were stored outside-that sorts the quality difference out: the 1200 rusted and lights/dash steamed up in a few months-unlike the 1150 before  :(

Saying that, though, my Bandit 1200 frame rusted completely in 8 months from new.....

Why do bikes not get built for real weather?  The GS is probably the strongest of the lot-but far too electronically complex for real "adventure" unlike the old 80/100GS.

Bring back my old MZ Saxon Tour 301  ;D ;D 50k in 2 years, snow, rain, sleet-no problem  ;D

Agree about storage-always got changed at other end and had soft shoes etc, plus towel etc if by the sea.

Can't see the point in going somewhere just to preen and then going home again-like Matlock...

Nope, when i took the Yam out to a bike day, when i got there, i thought what the fook do i do with my jacket and helmet? It was a hot day, i had to carry the lot around all day in my bike gear, was horrible.

GS pulled up beside, off came all bike gear, into a box, jeans and t-shirt on, and away......

That, and Long Way Around did it for me

I sold my RT in 2006 just as Long Way was out-if anything it put me off as anyone could go anywhere on anything with that support crew.  Plus I cannot stand whingeing Charley Boorman at all.

Fact is that many bikers would be better suited to a BMW bike than their Ninja Mutant Hero Turtle nonsense.

No-one on anything fast ever left me on the RT-I had years of experience and confidence, plus the high riding position gave me better ability to see further ahead and plan better, the comfort helped me concentrate harder, the telelever and ABS gave me more confidence; you could ride hard to a professional Roadcraft system and so even if they pulled away on a straight, you'd pass them on the next complex series of bends due to better experience and planning.

Hugely entertaining watching the "born again biker" on the Blackbird or 'Busa failing to leave you, then pretending to relax and enjoy the scenery after a few miles  ;D ;D ;D

This is why I liked the BMW RTs enough to have 3; low maintenance, great back-up, proper luggage and enough grip and go to infuriate the plastic rockets  ;D

I never laughed so much  ;)

It doesn't matter what weight you are or how you look so long as you're happy with yourself.
I'm 5'9" & the last time i weighed myself i was 12 & half stone (i don't have any scales)

It's down to genetics IMO Pete.

All of my family from great-grandparents on have drunk like fish, smoked like chimneys, easily made it to their late nineties, and always scored 100% in any health check no matter how little they did in the way of exercise.
