Most people are near a Maplins, thought this might be of interest to some.

Hard drive has 32 MB cache.

Aria prices below for a seagate drive, plus carriage and a caddy.

Thats what I was thinking, and it is seagate rather than some unbranded crap.

Seems Maplins are having thier biggest ever sale.

Tesco (store, not sure about Direct) had an external WD 1TB for under £50 before xmas (£30 off offer).

Can't see much use in external 3.5" drives, for portable drives, I prefer one thats portable, and doesn't need psu!!

i paid that price over a year ago for my 1TB drive, sorry thats not really a bargin, i've yet to see anything at a competitive price from maplins.

Handy when you need something in a hurry and there is one close, but never very cheap

I've been to our local Maplin's twice in the past few days.  They don't seem to have much stock, and are waiting for deliveries.  Check store stocks on their website before leaving the house otherwise you could well end up with a wasted journey.

Come back Tandy - all is forgiven. :)

Have been watching the 1TB Samsung Spinpoibt prices for a while now, they were heading on their way to sub £50 inc Vat, but all HD prices seem to have shot up pre Chrimbo.

Shot up to be put down again in 'sales'

Might look at one of those Samsung drives myself to upgrade one of my Sky boxes

I have heard of 1TB being fitted to the Sky box's, is there a limit to what size they can handle, as 1.5 TB are good and 2TB prices are dropping.

Plus is there a way to switch on the USB ports on the HD box to add external drives to view or record with.

USB ports are for service only sadly, they are of no use. (doubt they could handle the transfer speeds anyway)

Use this site to format any big disk: http://www.skycopyplus.co.uk/

Non HD boxes are IDE, up to 500gb just slots in, anything above needs Copy+ used.

HD boxes are SATA, 1TB's work well (around 800gb is actually useable) - Not tried 1.5's

I'am not really up....... on all this tech stuff.
.........is a TB......1000 GB?.
Ten years ago....... I purchased a top of the range PC.....it came with 32mb of RAM.......and a massive 4GB ....of hard drive........technology seems to have moved on a fair bit in the last decade or so. :y :y :y
