hello again omega brothers and sisters ::)
first of all a little story lol..
my names wes and i've been a member on here for 3-4 months ish? i'v been on a drink driving ban since oct(08)and it finishes this feb. theres been a silver 2.6 elite passed around my girlfriends family for a few years and i drove it myself a couple of times and fell in love with it.tho i woz getting annoyed with it being passed around her family to people that dint really look after it.and by chance 6months ago my chance came along so i snapped it up for a steal of a price because my girlfriends uncle had thrashed it around and woz adiment the head gasket had blown.now with the help of a few good souls on this site giving tip top advice it turned out to be the (yeah u guessed it)oil cooler.so 3days later (taking me time as no rush cuz cant drive it due to being on ban) job woz a good un & all fixed up,new spark plugs,oil/filter,rocker gaskets, thermostat, various rubber seals, oil cooler & plate, full rad n pipes flush out.went alittle crazy due to boredom lol.
now shes sits on the drive ready for action (come febuary)purrs like a kitten (and 2-3 after sneaky lenghs of the street)goes like stabbed rat!!
now the problem is i'm getting insurance quotes in at £1300 i'm 31 with 11yrs no claims and 3kids and drink driving offence or not i'm thinking them prices takes the p##s a little!!
any suggestions friends on decent omega loving insurers?
that play fair!!
p.s just for the record in my defence i'd like to ad that i woz pulled the next morn on way to work feeling 95% ok.. in my eyes thats not a drink driver even tho the law will and have tarred me the same brush and i hate having to say insurers on the phone dr10 offence cuz the second u say it u feel the person on the other end judge u!!..hate it...hate it!!..
so plz plz friends any feed back greatley appreciated. :y :y
cheers,,,
wes... ::)

I tend to use confused.com to get quotes.
Though it's understandable I suppose, I still think it stinks that even though you've been fined etc in court for an offence, the insurance can continue to keep fineing you further for years. Also not taking into account the circumstances as in your case.
-
I was with Hastings direct for years but had a look on Confused .com last month and 1st Central came up quite a bit cheaper for me,so I am with them now.
-
I use Swiftcover and find them very cheap year in year out.
No excuse for drink driving, whatever time of day or night you were caught it's all the same.
Drink driving convictions are the most expensive convictions you can get regarding insurance increases, second only I think to IN10 offences.
-
Talk to the Meerkat ;D ;D ;D
-
Morning after - the real nasty - you think you are OK but are not.
£1300 is actually not that bad.
If you have no noclaims you are looking at £800 or so for a non DD insurance.
Only thing is to earn the insurance back.

Mine is £170 fully comp - 1 accident,3 points. :)

:o I need to move from a Bolton post code!
The comute to Wigan each day from Suffolk might be problem though! ;D

Essex actually Andy,if I was in Suffolk it would be cheaper. If I hadnt taken the roof of the LDV van I hired for the day about 3 years ago it would be cheaper still. :y ;D

I had quotes of around £400/£450 for just the Omega, no accidents but 3 speeding points.
We currently have 2 drivers insure on 3 cars (with the option of a 4th for no extra) on a 'Family policy' for £720, which I didn't think was bad

Well mine bl**dy isn't! No accidents or points on my licence in last 15 years (and more because I was overseas before that).
Price went up about 40% when I renewed last time a couple of months back, and couldn't get anything cheaper anywhere. Now paying about £250. May possibly have something to do with unemployed status.
They enjoy kicking you when you are down :( :( :(

Have you been through the comparison websites J ? :-/

I could start a "compare the comparers" website. :) :) :)
Actually got the best quote - about £190 - from Liverpool Victoria Direct, but that's who I'm with anyway. So I phoned and moaned and it turns out that my existing policy has legal cover and a very low voluntary excess and one or two other bells and whistles which the comparison site quote didn't have.
Considering I live in a village, and that the local crime rate is so low as to be virtually non-existant (apart from a notorious triple murder some years ago), the postcode loading on motor insurance round here is a complete rip-off. :( :( :(

GOD NO!!!!!!..... i know someone that had a smash early dec,the assessor wrote the car off 2 days later, and around 265,000 phone calls later, she still hasnt received any money. wasted god knows how much on phone calls, and one time when she rang (after being on hold for nearly an hour)....some joker came on and said the business had went bust and she wouldnt get a penny.....then 2 mins later told her she had rang an adult escort service!
Reading through what iv just written it looks funny, but she certainly wasnt laughing. the customer service.......excuse me while i pick myself up off the floor from pissing myself laughing here.....is abismal. :( :( :( :(

It does make a big difference, because if you are unemployed, you have more time to drive round in your car,and so obviously at a higher risk. ;)

i'v gotta explain the dd a bit further i'm thinking as i feel like a few people are counting me as a drink driver!!
in my eyes i am not!! nor never will be..
i did the responsable bit for years.car stays at home.as do the keys so theres no room for error!i walked home that nite freeeeeezing in a t-shirt(as some bugger helped themselves to me coat at the pub)so next day i felt 95% ok.. a little bit rough but as in coming down with a cold.but a routine pull and check by the local sheriffs said otherwise..
so i ask every 1 once again..plz dont judge!!!.
i am not a drink driver.dont condone drink driving and would report any 1 i see that knowingly walks out of the pub half cut with the intention of getting behind the wheel..
its a bizarre screwed up situation thats seen me tarred with the dirty brush and counted amounst the naughty crowd..
i'm not getting on at any 1 imperticular that has repliedbut some comments seem unwitingly judging???
but all replys are still greatly appreciated omega brothers lol..
p.s cant wait to get this beast on the road.. ;) ;D

Why ? If they have offered you a quote.. but will lower it if you ring back .. it is obviously NOT their "best" quote anyway.. so they are admitting to ripping you off before you even start !!!
I tell any insurance / tyre / whatever who tell me this where to go.
-
entwood good point mate!!
i did think such when they said it but i'll give um their chance to shine?? if i get put on hold i'll hang up..if they start beating around the bush i'll hang up!!
but point well taken chief!! ;)

No. You have more time to sit in it on your drive & make engine noises, because you can't afford to drive the damn thing >:(
Come the 7th of Jan it's not insured any more until i find a job. break em >:( >:( >:( >:(

Hope you're not thinking i'm judging or classing you as a drink driver. I did say many of us have taken the chance on a morning after.
I was'nt having a pop & would be open about it if i was. I'm a blunt c**t & would never hint or beat about the bush. If i thought you were out of order i'd say so.
Hope i did'nt give you the wrong impression & best of luck getting your Mig on the road. Guy. :y
-
£160 fully comp for the Mig for swmbo and me to drive, limited mileage though. :y
-
Good for you to admit it and state how you feel - as before bad luck and a little poor judgement.
It could happen to anyone who occasionally drinks if they were not careful.
I detest the pub, get pissed, drive home lot.
This is BTW where if I was in charge I would start DD punishments with a course rather than instant year ban, then decide what is required
-
A 16 month ban for a DR10 sounds a bit harsh, even more so if it was a "morning after" conviction.
Like yourself I don't believe that alcohol is having the same effect the following morning as what it was having on the night, however I do believe that the persons standard of driving will suffer if they have had so much that a conviction can still be obtained the following morning - if for no other reason than the side effects of being dehydrated (hangover).
Based on what you have said so far though, £900 doesn't sound too bad with a DR10 that resulted in a 16 month ban being dished out.
