Title: Fault Code Help Required
Post by: Pippin on 01 January 2010, 15:34:49
Hi All,

Firstly, Happy New Year to everyone...

Secondly... I could do with a little help with a couple of fault codes thrown up by my car, they are:

P1835 and P1781...

If anyone could give me any ideas i would be grateful

Hi Tunnie

Its a RAC Scanner that was bought from Argos, it came with a software disc but it wont run on Windows Vista...

From what i can understand from the user manual they are manufacturer specific codes...

Think it may be time for a trip to TB's....

just seen you have a post 2001, which is Z22XEV i think? Those codes are for pre 2001 2.2's which were Y22XEV. Although i could very well be wrong  ;D

Only thing I can find:

P1781 Eng Torque Signal Circ

P1835 Kick-Down Switch Circ

Not 100% sure it applies to your engine but its GM?

Thanks Iggy, but as a complete thicko when it comes to cars any ideas what they translate into possibly being wrong?

Both codes are gearbox releated, trouble is with gearbox codes, they could be caused by other things.  :-/

Does the car drive ok? rev past 4k rpm?

Hi Tunnie

Yes it appears to be driving fine, will rev well past 4k on the dial, only fault i have seems to be a cylinder 4 misfire detected, but the car isn't misfiring, if that makes sense...

Hi TB

Those are the only codes the code reader will display, so not 100% sure if they are from gearbox or what, think i need a visit down to yours for you to interogate the systen with a proper code reader...

No noticable symptoms, drives ok, seems to change gear ok, just get the P0304 code regularly but no actual hesitation or misfire... will be changing the DIS Pack on Tuesday just to try that.....

Checked the most obvious things like oil in plug wells and breathers...all fine..

Sure not a P0340 - that often triggers odd gearbox codes

SWMBO's Astra G went through a period of 0300 & 0302 I changed the plugs which put the light out

............. for a week!  :(
Changed the coil pack for a pattern part which put the light out

........ for a couple of days.  :'(

I put some Redex through the inlet manifold & the rest through the tank which seemed to do the trick over the next few hundred miles.  ;)  :y

At first i wondered if it had got anything to do with the LPG so i ran it on Petrol for a week and the P0304 still randomly came up.....

Not sure on the injector cleaner, would it cause any issues with the LPG (I know its probably a silly question to ask but i'm not brilliant when it comes to cars)...

I'm changing the DIS pac tomorrow, do you think it would be worth clearing the codes after i've done that to see if they come back again? :y

Yes.

Well the weather brought the change of DIS pack to a halt, couldn't get there to collect it so will have to wait till weather improves a little...

But as soon as i have changed it i will clear all the fault codes (After keeping a note of them) and see what happens... :y
