Title: Sometimes less is more...winter food.
Post by: Amigo on 05 January 2010, 20:41:57
Just made a lovely broth out of leftover bacon joint, tates, a leek, celery, carrots & parsnips. All leftovers bar the stock cube & an oxo...bay leaf & seasoning.
Took less than an hour from peeling to serving, cost next to nothing, no oil or additives. Huge potful & tastes great if i say so myself. Can't beat home cooking! :y

I could just eat that.  Other thing with broths and stews is that they taste better the longer they are on the go.  :P :P :y

if i had a country mansion id have a cauldron by the big open fire and would keep it stocked with broth and id just keep chucking stuff in it all the time so it never ran out, imagine uncut bread rip a chunk off slap some butter on it grab a bowl and grab the ladle in yer cauldron and look out across yer land as yer dip in while a deer runs past yer window yer cats sat on yer tractor likin its arse and yer dogs chasing a rabbit off down into yer 8th acre :)

Used to be the done thing on Merchant Navy boats in years gone by... Whenever you fancied a mug of broth, into the galley and got one from the cook.  Grand!

Magnificent as they are deer equals venison so into the pot. The dogs would be spaniels or retrievers (soft mouthed) so ickle bundy wabbits would go in also as would any game. Hubble bubble! :y

Allo matey. Reminds me of a shop that was in the entrance of Knowsley ind. est. You could buy all the usual milk, paper etc. but all the rolls were freshly made with what you wanted in them. Best was at lunchtimes they did a dish of the day, chilli, stew...but the best was the scouse...gorgeous. If you had to stay out they'd fill your flask with hot water or a brew, all served by lovely girls. Next door to "Jackymundos" It's a ferkin' Subway now???? :'(

What is the world coming to? >:(

Me too. Went into one the other day for a baguette. Ended up with the spanish inquisition.

What type of bread? Do I want it toasted? Do I want lettuce? Tomato? cucumber? What relish? 'kinell!

By the time he's finished asking questions I'd lost the will to live. Then I realised I'd said yes to everything because I couldn't be @rsed with the barrage of questions - including olives, which I despise!

The illusion of more choice than you can ever want doesn't cover up the fact that the food's sh1te! >:(
