Title: LD's Snow Pics... Not as impressive as Debs'
Post by: Lazydocker on 08 January 2010, 11:45:27
Well... A few snowy pictures from the East Coast of Suffolk... Not as impressive as Debs' though ::) ::) Again, taken on a phone so quality isn't that good.

After 20 minutes or so digging the car out

More snow forecast right through to Sunday night/Monday morning :o :o

About 8" down now so doubt I'll be going far for a few days :y :y

We're to the west of Ipswich, and we haven't got quite as much snow as in Woodbridge.

I can't decide whether to make a mad dash for Sainsbury's now or to wait and see what it's like tomorrow.

I know we're not exactly mountainous round here, but there are some uncleared local roads (mine!) that are proving somewhat difficult to negotiate.

I'm going out for a newspaper in a minute - may take a picture or two on the way.

Like I said... Not as heavy as yours but we don't normally get much snow. Trouble is, once off the base it's open heathland and will be dreadful tomorrow when the wind picks up :o :o

TBH the biggest problem now is that they're low on salt/grit and spreading thinly, once/day (not on our road though ::) ::)) which isn't enough to make a dent in it any more... And, of course, they don't get the plough/gritters out until the snow has been compacted by some cars :-? :-?

Think I'll stay home for the rest of the day

That's my neighbour's house - you can't see mine.

Maybe I should excavate my son's Peugeot 205 diesel - skinny tyres, FWD, 1.8 lump over the driving wheels.  Don't think the lack of power steering will be a problem in these conditions.

Oi... Get your own photo thread ;D ;D ;D

Had to go out this afternoon to get some more veg... Was going to go to the shop at the end of the road but decided to pop to Tesco as the weather wasn't too bad and the main roads seemed clear... What a mistake :o :o :o

Got caught in a localised heavy downpour and this was the view I had (taken by SWMBO ;) ;)) of a pratt doing 10mph on the dual carriageway :o :o :o
(http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4060/4257246724_392767e1b2_b.jpg)

And as I overtook him/her at 30mph so I didn't get stuck on the hill the other side ::) ::) Which s/he did ;D ;D ;D

Had 2" of snow settle on the warm car in under 30 minutes whilst in Tesco :o :o :o

Only just managed to get the car back home... Have a shortish but fairly steep hill directly after a roundabout on untreated roads... Carried as much speed as I could off the roundabout (which wasn't much as I was sideways on it anyway at under 10mph :o :o) got about 15 foot up the road and the TC was working overtime... SWMBO panicked that I was stuck, I just switched off the TC and spun the wheels up to get moving again, fishtailing all the way [smiley=evil.gif] [smiley=evil.gif] ;D ;D

Then, when we finally got home, I levelled the snow out between my tyre tracks with the bumpers/underside of the car...  I think I'm going to be snowed in properly tomorrow as we're forecast very heavy snow overnight and and all day tomorrow :o :o

Should add... Police have closed the only real road out to here due to stranded vehicles now... I was one of the last cars to get through :o :y

Unbelievable - we're only about 10 miles away and we've had hardly any snow at all today.

Is the A12 closed then?

Nope, although there were some abandoned vehicles ::) ::)

It's the A1152, Woods Lane between the A12 and Melton Railway Station.

I'd imagine it's open again by now :y :y
