Title: some people
Post by: tunnie on 08 January 2010, 18:21:39
Looked out the window to find a Ford Ka, parked, directly opposite my drive  >:(

Its a long road ours and to park directly opposite in the snow, wtf was he thinking? Went out to have words, its now been moved onto the driveway where it should have been in the first place.

Just don't understand why, my car is clear of snow and right on the edge of the drive, its clear i have been going out and plan to go out again.

Next time i won't ask, i'll just ram it. That happended last time with the previous owners of that house, cause their car to be written off (we had company car insurance so was not an issue) - Stopped them parking there.

It happens to me as well. It's such a small issue, but it makes you so angry. Must be the 'Home is castle' psyche.

I am off to work tommorow (just to collect laptop, VPN dongle, and get VPN configured on my laptop, have to do some stuff internally first apparently)

So i can pick up items for you, popping to Tesco which is next door to the office anyway myself for a few bits and bobs, i can drop it by on the way back?

Hopefully, my road will be better tomorrow.  I'd feel guilty if I had to ask all the neighbours for another push ;D

Supposed to be just as cold, can't see it getting any better until temps raise considerably. Like i say, i am going to Tesco anyway, so its not an issue if you need stuff  :y

Even in good weather some idiots block my drive.
It always seem to be the one's who visit the house opposite. Many times I have gone out to ask them to move, stating why don't you block the drive of the house you are visiting  >:(  Complete t@@ts And yes many times I wish I'd embedded the towball of the estate into their car ;D

Not sure why our road is so slippery at the moment.  I need went A over T a few times walking around the car.  Wondering if the bright sun on it all day has done it - maybe a fresh refreeze will make it much better :y

But then you'd have to baby-sit your car all night.

Last time someone blocked my drive they'd forgotten to lock the car.  I just happened to try the door.  Knocked it out of gear and shoved it out the way.  Bet they wish they'd left their front wheels straight...

If you have a "drop" kerb to your drive, then call the cops (if you can get the tinkers to attend) and the car will be towed.

If you don't have a "drop" kerb, you can't stop people from parking opposite your drive.

Post by: tunnie on 08 January 2010, 22:59:59
yup its dropped to our drive....

What annoyed me was he was directly opposite, not little to left or right, but bang on  >:(

Left no movement, sometimes he parks a little to the right, and i have enough room to swing it over, but this time, no can do...

Also, does anyone know how far you must park from a junction? It was halfway between a t-junction, and give way section on traffic carming

30 feet from a junction IIRC

EDIT: Opps!

Nearly! Rule 243

Can't stop people parking opposite even with a dropped kerb iirc, only in front of it, this seems to be a problem on many of the modern housing estates where the squeeze in as many houses as possible....

At my last house some muppet parked his bike.

243

DO NOT stop or park

    * near a school entrance
    * anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
    * at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
    * on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
    * opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
    * near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
    * opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
    * where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
    * where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
    * in front of an entrance to a property
    * on a bend
    * where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities

except when forced to do so by stationary traffic.

No other reason for him to park that bike there other than to pose with it and show it to the passing traffic......

I was tempted, I was going to stay tight behind it and hold traffic back, as every one coming out of that juntion generally just focused on trafic from the right, and I was going to try getting it knocked over by some one following me from the juction.

I lived there for 12 years.  Buses turned in and out of the T juction (Both ways - Up and Down the main road bit)  All my neighbers parked fully on the road, I allways parked 3/4 on the kerb and there was still enough room to get annother car past on the kerb its self.  I allways left space for one cae behind me to my neighbers dropped kerb (where the purple escort is) and often had someone parked on my back bumper.  The bitch next door hit my Carlton tow bar as she admirred her house pulling up one day, annother neigher hit my diplomat whilst checking her make up as she pulled up.  That was 2 occasions I just happened to be looking out of the window.

2 or 3 crashes at the junction as people allways thought they had right of way pulling off.

The wall next to the bike had  3 cars  driven into his garden over the years (How I dont know) wall had been up about 6 months and I woke up to see the AA and a recovery crane dragging a car out of the wall one Sunday morning.

Glad I moved.
