Title: dear admin ---- a new posting section needed ?
Post by: tigers_gonads on 07 January 2010, 20:25:20
as above
is it possible for the admin too get there heads together and set up a new section ( with a very strong warning for those that may be offended not to enter ) so that members can post any " rather close too the bone "  jokes or pictures ?

it would stop any misunderstandings like earlier  :y
also the filter could be removed so that people could use whatever language they want without interference  :y

If you are going the direction I think you are then no, Admin wont go there.  It would be better hidden and not made for public view.  Possibly a minimum post count  for access.   far too much involved.

been discussed 1000's of times before, can't see it being in the nature of the forum. Would also be an increased headache, as someone would have to police it to make sure no rules are broken and anything serious offensive is not in there.

It doesn't need a section of its own, if you think it might offend don't post it! If you are offended by it then you should have the right to say so without being criticised.
We all have different levels of decency and that needs to be respected!
It's a worldwide, public forum, be considerate!

IDGAF.  But I was thinking more of the lines that recent conversations have gone a bit OTT, maybe the general discusion area ought to be members only.  As every one says, it's a car forum 1st so people join for the car advice and get a GDA as a bonus.

at the end of the day, it would give the lads / lasses who use this forum a chance to have a adult conversation / laugh without offending those who may be offended

if it offends you .............. don't enter

You shouldn't have to 'not enter' sections, people should respect that there are people with different standards.
I don't think anyone minds a bit of swearing in the context of a conversation but people were going beyond that and it wasn't on.

What we have works perfectly well until people start to question it! >:(

Would this not simply complicate the present structure of what is after all, a forum dedicated to the upkeep and continued enjoyment of Omega cars and their derivatives?

In the general chat section we have, for the most part, a self regulating opportunity to discuss matters which embrace various subjects, does this not provide more than enough scope to include some of the subject matter you refer to?

To have a section dedicated to more robust material may simply invite contributions of a more puerile nature and would unnecessarily lower the standing of the forum

The forum as presently constituted works well, so I would vote for the status quo. :y :y

Do you lot actually consider my posts as porn.  Never once has a muff been seen and maybe 2 posts with bare nipples (Remember the Air Conditioning Thread)

Most posts have the NWS warning.

Most pictures on Page 3 show more than the posts I do.

I give in, I really do.  :-/

In the main, I dom agree with you.  there are worse things seen in a newsagents, not on the top shelf.  Further, any young person with a modicum of computer knowledge can access stuff that would have been, in my yoof, only available in a rubber mac type emporium down a back alley off the High Street.

That said, its a car forum.  'Tastefully and artistically taken' photo's are one thing but smutt and porn are somewhat else.  For me, near the knuckle is almost fine (page 3 etc) but anything else that wouild perhaps cause offense to more mature minded folks is not.  What I look at in my own time out of OOF is one thing and what I want to see on here is something perhaps entireley different.  Sorry.....   :-[

I'm not the least bit offended by any of the soft-core pictures I've seen posted on OOF.

I am, however, slightly miffed that someone thinks I might be even vaguely interested in Monkey Magazine.   :)

Thats how I saw see it.  I hate porn as such, but I do like to see the beuaty of a nicely proportioned female, plus it allows the imagination to work wonders when they are partially dressed.

But as you will have noticed there have not actually been many posted in the last few weeks, if any at all as I cant remember.

Any way, I have moved on, I think the music videos on youtube are far sexier, and we all listen to usic in our cars, dont we.   ::)

been discussed 1000's of times before, can't see it being in the nature of the forum. Would also be an increased headache, as someone would have to police it to make sure no rules are broken and anything serious offensive is not in there.

If you want garbage, go to:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/  :y
Or watch the TV equivalant........
http://news.sky.com/skynews/

 :y ::) ;D ;D ;D

I actually do prefer BBC, when i check the footie scores (for work, i actually hate football) i end up using BBC as its easier to navigate and just 'better'

The Sky Player for Xbox is complete kak as well, iPhone Live TV is very nice though. I don't like everything Sky  :y

i'm the first to admit that they should be some sort of control. at the end of the day. i've a 14 year old lad but on the other hand, not been able too say words like sh*t is going a bit too far  :(

at the end of the day, it would give the lads / lasses who use this forum a chance to have a adult conversation / laugh without offending those who may be offended

if it offends you .............. don't enter

You shouldn't have to 'not enter' sections, people should respect that there are people with different standards.
I don't think anyone minds a bit of swearing in the context of a conversation but people were going beyond that and it wasn't on.

What we have works perfectly well until people start to question it! >:(
[/highlight]  ljay, do you have a problem with me ( a member of the public) on a public forum asking a question ?

No problem, just don't see the point in questioning something thats been done to death!
I think you are being disrespectful to the admin team who work so hard to give us OOF, they run it as they see best, its their decision not yours!

Put your claws away you :P

And i get all the stick, and got told to have chill pills  ::)

It seems when non-admins uphold the regulations, and act like admins, we get set apon  >:(

Tunnie? You lost me with that post, whos told you to chill? Who set up on you, do you want me to get them at playtime?? ;D ;D ;D

Skruntie, No I wasn't classing what you post as porn and actually find it very pleasant... Keep it up :y :y

I was actually defending you because you always use NWS, which is ideal for those who don't want/aren't in a position to look at the time :y :y :y

I'm not the least bit offended by any of the soft-core pictures I've seen posted on OOF.

I am, however, slightly miffed that someone thinks I might be even vaguely interested in Monkey Magazine.   :)
I wouldn't have mentioned it if this thread hadn't been here.  I just don't look at it. :)
Didn't realise it was being P.M'd  :-?

As said, I have no probs with Skrunties pics and like others, like the 'NWS' header...  Also, as has been seen prior to this wee spat, if there is a probs from any member where a post causes offence, then the original is glady pulled binned by Skruntie.

We know the boundaries, no need to test or expand them, IMO....   ;)   :y

It isn't.  I wish I hadn't said anything now - poor old Mr. Skruntie is really getting a battering here.  He doesn't deserve it!  The place wouldn't be the same without him.

In my experience of Online Forums, adding a free-for-all section just renders the 'General Discussion Area' derelict.

Unfortunately, (with everything in life) a minority spoil things for the majority.... and that works both ways.  You get the occasional person posting things which are WAY over the top, and flip-side, you get the occasional person who complains when they can see an arse crack.

A happy medium is, as always, impossible to find.

However, OOF seems to operate beautifully, and I'm a big fan of the old adage - If it aint broke, dont fix it.

OK .. as I was the first one to mention "porn" and that seems to have become the main arguing point ,... allow me to explain.....

At the moment no porn is on the site, I don't consider any of the pictures put up to be porn.

However the original post ... if anyone recalls ... was ..

Quote
is it possible for the admin too get there heads together and set up a new section ( with a very strong warning for those that may be offended not to enter ) so that members can post any " rather close too the bone "  jokes or pictures ?

it would stop any misunderstandings like earlier  Thumbs Up!
also the filter could be removed so that people could use whatever language they want without interference

which is.. by it's very nature .. a request for the present "rules" albeit unwritten, to be "broken", for want of a better word, quite heavily.

This I believe would end up with pictures/language that would appoach the "porn" description IMHO.

Hence my comment.

As said, I have no probs with Skrunties pics and like others, like the 'NWS' header...  Also, as has been seen prior to this wee spat, if there is a probs from any member where a post causes offence, then the original is glady pulled binned by Skruntie.

We know the boundaries, no need to test or expand them, IMO....   ;)   :y

Shall I start a thread tonight then.   ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] :y

A nice selection of semi nude blokes please!! :y

i think we should vote on that one

You lot could always get your kit off, save Skruntie the trouble of finding pics!!! ;D ;D ;D

you show me yours and we will show you ours  :D ;D ;D

You first!! :P

OK, me when I was younger.

I think the most sexually alluring area on the female form - other than the legs, bottom, back, hands, eyes, lips (facial) - is the landscape between the navel and pubis, as so delightfully illustrated in you photograph. :-* :-* :-* :-*

Throw in an intellect and I'm sold :y :y

I'm a supporter of Mr Skruntie. Not only is he one of the foundation blocks of the forum but he provides a welcome bit of entertainment for the more open-minded members. He always labels his threads NWS if they warrant it, and demonstrated earlier that should any member object to anything close to the mark, he will duly remove it. Exactly as the forum should be

To call anything that he posts as 'porn' is rubbish. Keep up the good work Mr S

And as for a new section.  That will be a no from me...
My admin vote would go the same way....

I for one have no issues with the majority of posts, Skruntie's included, as virtually every regular here knows how we operate, and where the lines are drawn.  I feel there is no reason to change that.

Personally, I am against 'members only' areas. OOF ensures that all areas (with the single exception of a mod area, which as we live at all ends of the UK is the easiest way to organise/discuss things behind scenes) are viewable by anyone, from the top posters to potential new members.  Additionally every area, everyone but guests (to reduce spamming) can post to, with the eception of For Sale areas for the reasons discussed a million times before.

I appreciate, and I suspect the rest of the team does as well, people have made small circles of friends within the OOF community, and perhaps want to share, err, more exotic material/discussions/debates/insults/whatever, but their are undoubtedly better platforms on the net than OOF for that.  We are, first and foremost, an Internet base car club.
