Miss Klass, a model for Marks & Spencer and a former singer with the pop group Hear'Say, was in her kitchen in the early hours of Friday when she saw two teenagers behaving suspiciously in her garden.
The youths approached the kitchen window, before attempting to break into her garden shed, prompting Miss Klass to wave a kitchen knife to scare them away.
Miss Klass, 31, who was alone in her house in Potters Bar, Herts, with her two-year-old daughter, Ava, called the police. When they arrived at her house they informed her that she should not have used a knife to scare off the youths because carrying an "offensive weapon" – even in her own home – was illegal.[/b]

she's scary enough when holding a microphone..... i'd NEVER hand her a knife !!!

We can't protect ourselves yet the judical system does nothing to deter these toe rags. I know it changes the topic a little, but just look at the sentence doled out to the lowlife who threw bleach over a woman who told him to be quiet in a cinema. Detained for 12 months, he will serve half of it and then be released on license, break ME he already had a conviction for hitting someone over the head with a brick, plus numerous cautions for violence. CHUCK THE BLOODY KEY AWAY, and protect us from these people. The judge said he had issues, I'd give him issues!!.
Sorry for the rant it just makes me so cross.

crazy but at the end of the day, we voted the idiot in that makes the laws >:( >:(
I didn't :)

If she is locked in her house, at no immediate / imminent threat of being hurt, then is it really proportional to wave a knife in a threatening manner?
Totally agree the morons shouldn't be on her property.. but she'd have done better to just shut the curtains and call the old bill.
Words of advice seems like a reasonable outcome, to me?
-
you only have to look at the prison system >:( >:(
whatever the courts hand down, you serve half of it >:( >:(
inside, you are kept warm, 3 meals a day, recreation time, and education corses for all >:(
if you want drugs then somebody will help ;) the prison officers look the other way because they get no hassle off stoned prisoners >:( >:(
when they do get get out, its into a nice warm halfway house and all the help and support they want >:( >:(

She was in the right.....most people would do the same.
The world has gone mad, a good copper would have bit his tongue and moved on, this one has made a stupid comment and painted a bad picture of the force (sadly as many are excellent).
-
I presume it was her that told the police she waved a knife at them through the window :-?
Why not just keep her mouth shut.
-
A big knife is a scary and dangerous weapon. But if you want to frighten the intruders away, you need to use a scary and dangerous weapon. Not much point in waving a fly swatter or a feather duster at them, as the likelihood that they will fall over and die laughing is very small.
I don't do "brave" - never have - but in the same circumstances, from the safety of my double-locked, double-glazed house, I too would endeavour to divert the intruders. Realistically, the law ain't going to turn up in time to have any useful effect, unless they happen to be outside you front door when you call 999.
-
She should have let tem break in, then just tell the police it was that time of the month, and that she was sorry and promice not to do it again. :-X
(Far too much time listening to STMO :-/ )

thats the eu for you

In America she could have shot them :y >:( >:( >:(

That is the very reason we will NEVER call the old bill if we catch someone breaking in, much less hardship (and less of a burden to the otherwise law abiding taxpayer) to rectify the problem "in house".
About the only line that needs adding to that snippet of news if that you are going to threaten a burglar/mugger/whatever with a weapon (although threats are daft because it simply forewarns).....make sure you....
1. Know how to use it.
2. Don't hesitate to use it.

how true-years ago we used to get a load of trouble from the underage scrotes who used the local pub, it got so bad at some points me and the feller next door used to sit up with baseball bats. I understand the logistical problems of getting police response quickly and, trust me, we had gone down the "correct" routes first but we'd got thoroughly p*ssed off of the constant noise, vandalism, threats etc. with the sympathetic coppers turning up far too late .Amazing how quick they can get to you when you inform them that youre holding one of the little f**cks (citizens arrest?)and that as he isnt taking this too well you are about to kick several tons of the brown stuff out of him though... ::)

Or sneak out of the front door while they are trying to break in at the read, and educate them with a 3' length of 2x4 and then tell the police it must have fallen off the roof. :-/

And be careful after playing console games.
Luckily I do not have a FAL or AK47 (game 1), nor a nice set of hidden blades (game 2) ;D ;D ;D ;D

It appears that the police were wrong in giving her such a warning. A retraction has been published, this all needs clarifying though.
What is reasonable force?
-
Ok so whats the score with paint ball guns. They'll not going to kill anyone but christ they hurt if on rapid fire.
i take it you can still get done for getting paint on the nice young mans shell suite

A 3' length of timber is going to require an absolute minimum of 6' free space to take a swing, and there is no guarantee that the target will still be in the same spot when the wood should be making contact.
