Title: School closures in bad weather
Post by: Nickbat on 12 January 2010, 22:49:16
How many people know this, I wonder?

"Currently, if a school stays open and only a portion of pupils attend, the school will be penalised for having a low attendance rate by the DCSF. If a school decides to shut its doors due to the bad weather, all pupils are marked down to have attended, meaning 100% attendance."

Answers a few questions, methinks.

Essex County Council are asking that this piece of legal nonsense be changed.  :y :y

That's what happens when you introduce "targets" imo.
People work to meet the target not do the job to the best of their abilities.

Where have you been for the last 10 years plus mate?

EVERYTHING is target driven these days, the actual performance counts for sweet FA.

My missus managed to open up her school every day and, consequently, will be hammered for her attendance figures.
