What would you chose to replace your car? considering that it has been out of production for 6 years.
I love mine, suits my needs ( large engine, auto, well spec'd estate), but when it comes to replacement I can't think of anything in it's range that comes anywhere near. ( apart from German models( Audi, BMW, Merc), and the associated cost).
IDEAS?
-
Simple .. another Omega ... and I did that hoop 2 years ago ... :)
-
Got to be a big Audi saloon for me preferably 4WD
-
When the time comes, though no signs that will be any time soon, I'll have a good look at the Volvo S60 D5.
Ok it's wrong wheel drive but apart from that, it seems to tick all the right boxes.
-
I did it the other way round I went from an Audi RS6 avant to my
estate.Reason for doing it divorce and she was a robbing b!tch.
-
Had a Jag XF for a while but now back in teh miggy....says it all :y
-
I'm not gona be much help. because i really don't know :-/ :-/
There's nothing that takes my eye in the same size, i partically hate BMW's, Mercedes & the like. They're over hyped & expensive in every way >:(
I think i'll go down a size & have a Astra Sporthatch :) :) :)
-
Hopefully in 5 or 6 years time an Insignia 4x4 auto. Or failing that I will consider another Volvo.
Will never go down the road bmw/merc/audi/vw. as way overpriced and to expensive to maintain.

My mate has a 56reg Merc, i think it's a 300 or sumat :-/ I know it's a V6 diesel.
He showed me under the bonnet a while back :o :o :o :o
I'm not suprized they're expensive to maintain, to do any work you'd have to remove gawd knows what. Very little room. At least in an Omega there's a good deal of room in comparison :y
-
I'm planning to replace my Miggy in the next month or so... With another one :y :y :y
What I'll do when the new one has had it I don't know though :-/ :-/ Hopefully I wont have to think about it for a good few years :y :y
-
Range Rover - has all the toys, big engine and is auto with a fairly large boot. Only trouble is the cost! :o

Agreed, should also have added were merc is concerned RUST.
Many of them very rusty, in places no rust should appear, inner front wings, under rear seat and bottom inner edges of the doors.
-
Saloon - Lexus LS. Estate - Range Rover (late P38 4.0 or early
L322) either vehicle would tick my box :y
-
Think I would go for a Chrysler 300CRD Touring.

Not cheap but loved by the media and owners alike, epic size and value.
The estate due for launch in a couple of months in UK and there is a model for everyone; even a 4x4 transmission option on 2.0 TDI and 3.6 V6 engines.

I really want one-love the brand, the interior quality is magnificent, I love the styling and there is a good choice of engine and spec. Auto Express adore their long-term test car.
I went to the showroom and was staggered :y

Yeah. You couldn't afford to run the jag. ;D

I looked at a Superb when they were first released... Couldn't get a comfortable driving position :( :(
The Mother in Law has got an Octavia 4x4, quick enough and handles well enough but not comfortable for long journeys... Done Gatwick and back a few times (only 320ish miles) and been tender in the back and legs every time but done 700+ miles in a day in the Omega and gotten out fresh as a daisy :y :y Also, road noise is very noticeable in it ::)
-
unless I win a lottery dont have any plans to change any of the two in the near future ;D
models I like are BMW 330 or suby sti .. but both being gas guzzlers and expensive on parts , I have no reason to hurry (waiting them to drop to 0.0) ;D

I spent time in a 2005 Octavia 2.0 TDI Elegance and really rated-but the seats are hard and too narrow.
I like the (2009-) Superb seats though, plenty of adjustment on high spec versions, big enough, etc. I found it very quiet on the road, too :-/
Most comfortable car I know of is the current Jaguar XJ-seats built for wide, middle aged/older men....lovely :y
I just love the Superb, though-I get the look and love the brand and the kit/power is fab for the money.

As I have posted previously - I am going for the Phaeton - arrives on 1st March. It is a little quirky but engineering seems to be absolutely first class from reports - not the best looker but providing you buy at right price then you have a massive spec for price of a top of range insignia which I cannot fit into (as opposed to Omega). You can also visit the Glass Factory in Dresden where they are built.
It is a gamble but value for money is high if you can avoid the massive depreciation.

Extract from recent Times article - Last Hurrahs of the Petrol Age
"When you pull the screen-washer stalk on a Volkswagen Phaeton, the headlights
are given a squirt of water too. There's nothing unusual about that. What is
unusual is that one headlamp is squirted first, and then, when it's clean, the
other. This is so that the driver is not suddenly plunged into an impenetrable
gloom as both headlamps are covered in soap suds at the same time.
When you spot attention to detail like that, you just know that the rest of the
car is going to be sensational. And so it is. Look at the boot hinges, for
instance. You'd have them on your desk as paperweights.
The best thing about the Phaeton, though, is that it's actually a Bentley
Continental GT, only without the bling and the footballer connotations. And it
cost less. It's a great, great car. In my mind, the best VW has made. Today's
price GBP45,565"

Replaced the wifes 2.5 estate last year with another 3.0 estate. when it meets it's maker I'll try and find another Omega.

I went to see a used one that was 26k back in 07 and was impressed by the uber-tech but underwhelmed by the Passatiness (is that a word?!) and the lack of charm.
Superb engineering, but will you love it??
Saying that, I'm still jealous ;D

Audi A8 3.0d or BMW 530d for me....

When I spot attention to detail like that from a German development department I wonder if they've noticed that the wheels are square yet. ;)

Excellent seat adjustment as well - easy to get a good driving position.
Built for short, fat, Jewish drivers like me. Pity I can't afford one... :(

But, its a VW with Bently running costs ;)

Honda Legend, drop like stones in value, fully loaded comfy cars.

Newish Nissan X trail 'cause a 4X4 is the only vehicle that will be able to get through the pot holes appearing everywhere with the biggest nudge bar I can fit ( still legal over here ) to ward off all tourist hire cars and scavaging deer . :y
