Title: printer to laptop
Post by: unlucky mark mv6 on 15 January 2010, 17:35:40
Just bought an hp photosmart c309g-m printer, and want to set it up so that its wireless, problem is the laptop has a virgin mobile dongle(which is shit),can it be done and how.Tried doing it by wi-fi,and wireless, but nothing,so at the moment i have to use the lead, and by the way the instructions arent worth the paper they are printed on. :-/

If the printer can do wifi, and you have an Access Point, yes.

Access Point not required if printer can do Ad-hoc, but not all can.

Ignore the dongle. utterly irrelevent.

I presume laptop has wifi, if so, HP docs should say how to set it up this way

OK Mark, try this.....

Make sure the printer is on, click start then devices and printers (or printers if you're on Windows shitbox XP), click add a printer then when asked select network printer and then try browsing the network for the printer. Make sure the printer is set to connect wirelessly first though ;)

Tried all that lee,but the display on the printer keeps saying it cannot find it,and picks half the street up instead. ::) :y

That isn't going to work if the OP isn't connecting to an access point of some description, because the Wi-Fi card will be assigned an internal IP address by Windows.

What the OP needs to do is set a static IP on the laptop Wi-Fi card, same again for the printer.
Of course the above will only work if the printer can do Ad-Hoc.
