Title: Thieving SCUM !!
Post by: Tonka. on 16 January 2010, 16:24:03
On Tuesday of this week, I dropped some equipment off at a shop, around the back.

As my hands were full I shut the car doors but was unable to lock it.
I walked 10 feet and was less than a minute.

This was the only time the car has been left unattended and unlocked.

Upon my return, Tomtom Go 910 and the remote stolen.
Yes, I know it was an old model but it was a gift from my brother in law when I got married.

idiots dont miss a trick do they.  :-/

At work someone snook thier head round my door and saw I was busy, said he would wait outside while I was done.  Stook his head back 30 seconds later and said he had to go.  No idea who he was and never saw him again.      Neither did I see the breand new socket set that he had picked up the 1st time round, and seems put back the brand new empty box the 2nd time round.

Cant trust anyone these days.   :-/

After watching quite a few episodes of The Real Hustle (Jessica  ::) )  they certainly opened my eyes to some of the cons people get up to and I bet they are all oportunisits for the Tom Tom's etc.

Mate of mine the other day took his fleece out of his locker and left it while he popped into the toilet for a slash. In the 2 minutes it took for him to come back out somebody that he works with had gone through his pockets and stolen his wallet. Unbelievable  >:(

Exactly, I was well pissed off for him, I would have quite happily helped him to strangle the bastard

My missus up until last year worked at a charity shop.
The amount of stuff they had nicked was unbelievable.
Even trying on secondhand clothes, then walking out without paying. :-?

While I seriously wish we could go back 30 odd years in terms of "how the world was", I'm afraid I don't have much sympathy for you for leaving a £400 SatNav in an unlocked vehicle....especially as you probably left it switched on which would mean even the registered blind would spot it from 400 yards.

couple days ago, a woman in Wigan had engine running on her MG ZR to defrost, Mr Scally who was lurking around jumped in her car as soon as her back was turned, as he sped off the lady tried in vain to stop the said pondlife from taking her car by blocking his path, the bumwipe hit her sending her flying through the air, she is now dead, and the soon to be bummed by some big hairy chap for the rest of his life car theif, arrested.

You watch too much american crap on TV.
UK prisons are nowhere near like that, and the thief won't do anywhere near a life sentence.

i agree he probably won't get life, more like 3yrs for death by dangerous driving, or some other lesser charge, these dogs may aswell be given the nod to carry out crimes like this, because sentences are leniant, as for the american tv comment, there are prisons like that in this country, they're not all open holiday camps.

The only prisons where the guys are doing each other up the shitter are the proper lifer units (ie, those that hold the loons & mass killers).
Even then, they are f**k all like the yank jails where shagging is concerned.

IMHO "he" should be charged with murder, as I believe that driving a car at someone is a deliberate act.

However as it is impossible to prove that they intended to kill, and intent is a major part of a murder charge, it would be downgraded very quickly to manslaughter.

However, manslaughter requires proof that the defendant was "aware" that a serious risk of death or injury existed due to his actions.... a smart arsed lawer will plead that the driver "expects" the pedestrian to get out of the way....

So it might be, as said, "death by dangerous" ..... a very much less serious offence.

However he will probably get executed upon release by the family of the Woman.

I would, I would hunt them down if they did that to any of my family!

i fully understand what you mean, but the irony is, the scumbag theif/killer gets a couple of years, the respectable guy looking to avenge his loved ones killer would get a lot longer.

I entirely agree with you KW. An unlocked car is an open invitation it seems.

But the thing was not on view, it was in the glove box. The mount was in there also and the windscreen was clear of 'sucker circles'.

I have since learned that they even take the rubbish indoors at night in that area. As that has been stolen too.  ::) ::)

Mick

I work in a charity shop on Saturdays, and I just can't believe the stuff that gets nicked.  After Christmas, one of my colleagues was removing the decorations from the window.  She put them on one end of the counter; I was doing some pricing-up at the other end - about 4 feet away.  Somebody nicked a 30cm high Christmas tree with out either of us noticing.  Value?  50p.  Why?

We had a display stand with 30 pairs of reading glasses - price £1.50.  We sold 6 pairs, the other 24 were stolen.

If they have to steal, why don't they take something worth stealing? >:( >:( >:(  Preferably from somebody else's shop.

Someone obviously watched you put it in there then T.

Like you I put the dashmount & power lead in the glovebox, but my 910 goes in my pocket every time I leave the car.

PS

Just reread original post....not a lot of point in stashing the TomTom in the glovebox when you left the motor unlocked mate.

Yes the thief could have popped a window if they saw you putting it away, but a fair percentage of the oppertunists walk away if they have to consider making noise/causing damage.

No mate. I didn't use it for the job. Just got out of the car !!  :(

I just put it down to opportunists sneaking around.
Sadly, I am unable to replace it. Things are too tight. Thats what pisses me off  ;)

I was away from the car for less than a minute  :(

Even if you did have £400 to hand, you simply can't replace the 910 - it was the last of the best if you liked your homebrew.

Keep an eye open for 910 tomtom units on ebay in your area, the thief might be thick enough to sell it there.
