Title: Good News for Beer Drinkers (proper beer that is)
Post by: Pitchfork on 15 January 2010, 16:40:42
For the past week Anheuser-Busch InBev workers have blockaded the company’s plants in Leuven, which brew Stella Artois, and factories in Hoegaarden and Jupille. With all entrances and exits blocked, supplies have been stopped and factories are working on half capacity and are unable to deliver to stores. AB InBev is legally entitled to remove the blockades by force, although union members have said such a move would cause a company-wide strike across Belgium.
The largest European supermarket chains, Carrefour and Delhaize are seeing a steady decline in their beer stocks, with Carrefour saying it has supplies to last only until the weekend. Delhaize has said that some beers will run out completely in the next two or three days if the strike continues.
The protests were sparked by the announcement that AB InBev, one of the world’s largest beer companies, would be cutting its workforce in Western Europe by 10 percent, firing 800 workers, including 263 in Belgium. The company is citing a sharp decrease in beer consumption. In Belgium, beer consumption has dropped by 20 percent.
In response to the announcement, AB InBev employees took 10 brewery managers hostage last week. They were eventually released unharmed.
Despite this drop in consumption, beer supplies are already running low. AB InBev Belgium has said that with production and deliveries being disrupted as a result of the protest blockade, it may have to temporarily lay off staff. The company has said it would hold mediated talks with both white and blue collar union representatives.  ::)
A union official has said that the unions will only resume dialogue if the job cut plan is withdrawn.

The Stella from Leuven is actually almost drinkable which is quite an achievement for a Lager IMHO. Shame the stuff we get in the UK is sourced from a urinal factory and not imported.

Never mind. All the while the Eight Bells in Alton is still standing I'll have no use for their products.  [smiley=beer.gif]

PERONI.. Italian lager brew in ITALY, not a chemical from Burton-on-Trent, 3  bottles at 660ml for  a fiver at most supermarkets, NICE DRINK!!!!!! after 7 bottles tonight I'm off to bed HAPPY (especially after Ray Winston on Jonathon Woss said ' Give me a plolitician (that doesn't lie). (It's that good I can't spelll!)
Strange how all the beers in the same promotion are brewed in the U.K ( becks, 1667 ETC).
If I could get a pint of decent PEDIGREE then I would pay for the taxi ( SWMBO don't drive!!!!!)

What can say? Decent Grub, and ALE on my doorstep.
THANKS GUYS
Talking of good pubs in Nottingham!
No 1. The VICTORIA in Beeston superb food, Real Ale & Lagers, plus at least 120 single MALTS behind the bar, the SCOTCH list is longer than the WINE list... Really traditional ... If you're dissappoined I'LL pay for your meal, with proof of your dissatisfaction from Neil the landlord!!!.
No 2. The WOLLATON in Wollaton, simply great food (look at the website for details), and I can walk there!!!

Nice pint of Summer Lightning followed by:

Plymouth Navy Strength 100 Proof Gin

57.7 ABV

Description:
A bold, flavourful gin, yet smooth and balanced. The higher strength amplifies the 7 select botanicals for an aromatic and vibrant flavour.

Background: Plymouth Navy is the traditional strength required by the British Royal Navy, as it was the benchmark strength at which a spirit could be spilt on gunpowder and it would still ignite. For almost two centuries, Her Majesty's Naval Fleet was sustained by Plymouth Gin, and no ship left port without a bottle of Navy Strength 100 proof (57% abv).

 :P :P :P :D

Gunpowder for snuff  ;D ;D ;D

Supposedly the Trip To Jerusalem, however the Royal Children is apparently older.
