Why a new number?
It's only the handset that takes exception to liquid, your SIM will qork quite happily in a £10 Tesco/Asda/Sainsbury's mobile phone.

A 95° C wash is a pretty sure fire way to f**k a SIM, but that doesn't mean you have lost your number.
Simply phone your provider, give them the IMSI of the new SIM card, and they will do the rest for you.
