Jeeeezus Bobo....

Glad to hear you're relatively undamaged.....

I hope all your respective aches and pains resulting from that little clusteropps  go away right quick... and that the insurance assessor guy is an omega lover....

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop though....   you said 2 other cars.......   okay, so a fiesta counts as half, being as it is only a motorised roller skate.....

so what the break did you do to score a full 2??  hit another Omega??

Is there sufficient value in that - its an N reg, so little value. Not sure Bo Bo will be able to strip it either, though would be good practice...

I'm using my Dad's Mazda Demio

I had one of them as a courtesy car when I took SWMBO's MX5 in for a service once. Filled it up at a garage a few miles from the dealer and noticed a nasty smell of burning brake / clutch lining. Realised that the handbrake lever was so low relative to the driver's seat that I'd just driven 20 miles with the handbrake partially on. Luckily the smoke and most of the smell had cleared by the time I arrived!

Dad's is a V reg & has done 6300 miles  :o

With all that's happened I hadn't realised that I haven't told you's.  :-?

I stopped on a corner just up the road to say Hi to a couple of mates, we were chatting about what to do for St. Pats when a car was approaching. There wasn't enough room for him to get through so I decided to move off. I floored it to get out of the way (& showing off a little!) & the **** decided to go for a gap that wasn't there, I swerved out of the way to miss him & clipped a Fiesta (dented the door & smashed the glass), bounced off that & into the back of a van  :-[ I only went about 10-15 yards & couldn't have been doing more than 15MPH!
The bloke in the other car dissapeared, no-one got his number & I was the only vehicle moving (well until I hit the van  :o)

BoBo - first chance to reply to this thread.  As said by a few already, a car is simply a chunk of tin and can ultimately be replaced.  Expensive tin, without a doubt, but tin none the less.....  Hope you heal OK and the insurance sorts it out without too much additional pain.    :y

You think you had a bad day?  Check these images out.....  There are other images but most certainly not for a public forum.  Yup, the white vehicle won and the driver of the black vehicle collected his prize at the ceremony........

Well I got a call from the insurance assessor today.
I had my spiel all worked out expecting an offer of a few hundred quid but could hardly get a word in.
He went on about what lovely cars the Elite are & how well mine had been looked after, very low mileage etc. etc. He said Glass's guide under value them & I should expect to pay about £800 for a private sale & £1150 for forecourt & would I be prepared to accept £1500!
I was flummoxed but managed to say I'd like to think about it, he said OK but he wouldn't be offering any more as he's been generous with his offer.
I'll loose £250 excess off that but it's far more than I was expecting.
Looks like the hunt for another is about to begin......

I forgot to ask about salvage so I phoned back & he said it will cost me £300.
I'll have to get it lifted somewhere because it's not tow-able so it's probably not worth it.
I asked again about the settlement but he wasn't prepared to up the offer & as said above I think it's better than reasonable....

Sounds that the offer is a good one for a change from the insurance. :y

The reg number is also worth something, if it was me i would check with one of the online personal reg places for a price. Might be able to wring a little more out of them. ::) If the insurance pay out you loose this. If you own the scrap you can transfer to another car as long as it is not older than the year the reg number came out.

Chin up, keep smiling. ;)

Climate panel will sell, as will the 'wooden' plastic.  the rear blind, if working is valuable, as are rear leccy window bits. The list goes on.  The cruise will sell...

As far as I know, to keep the plate all you will need is the V5 in your name, a valid tax disc (easier than expired within last 6 months) and a valid MOT.  And complete the forms at your LVLO.  And £105, but this includes the £80 fee to transfer on at a future date to another car so the £25 is the paper 'holding' fee.

Suggest doing this ASAP, especially if the car is written off then the Ins Co will want the V5 and other papers from you.  Less of a problem, obviously, if you buy back the salvage but bear in mind that DVLA can be VERY quirky as regards written off vehicles and the transference of plates.  Do the deed now rather than later.

Worst case, costs you £105 to get plate onto paper, slaughter the car into its component parts, buy another with the megadosh from bargain bucket sale, transfer the plate onto the new steed.

Easy really.....   :y

edit to show the relevant DVLA howtoo page (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/PersonalisedRegAndNumberPlates/DG_4022575)
